The top of the pile this week is once again RetroFX. A few weeks back a
release was expected to be happening any day but still nothing has appeared.
Last week we finally got some news from the RetroFX camp that they are
trying to evolve into a "professional team". The buzz around the Internet is
that most people think this means the RetroFX update of "Ghosts and Goblins"
will end up being a commercial release, which I would say is right on the
money with where retrogaming is going in general. While all this isn't real
anything new to those following the emulation scene, keep your eye out for
whom the RetroFX people are working with and how their work is going to end
up showing up.
Another popular topic of late is "The Impact" and its anonymous author.
Apparently some add-ons for the program have made appearances already
however when I tried to track down the exact source of the rumor I was
unable to find it again. Several other people have also confirmed the
information was there at one time but it appears someone has gone back and
covered their tracks. Want a hint? Well I can tell you all the clues
floating around point to the author not being Sardu.
Word is also spreading that M72 and Namco System 2 games will be coming to
Mame soon. No doubt this is good news for fans of "Rolling Thunder 2" and
the "R-Type" series, however it does leave us some questions such as if the
much desired "R-Type Leo" will be emulated soon and what about that other
shooter making the rounds, Konami's "Salamander 2". Will these come to Mame
or some other emulator, that is something only time will tell.
Still looking for some console news? No nothing about a Dreamcast emulator
this week but there is promising news about a NeoGeo Pocket Color emulator
being in development. JoseQ mentioned in last week's rumor mill that at
least one of these emulators in development comes from a prominent coder.
Could the message in the new Raine asking for NeoGeo Pocket or NeoGeo Pocket
Color bios hold an important clue as to this author's identity?
Lastly these is some gossip going around that has the programmer of a
certain console emulator also working on emulating a few arcade games that
have not previously been emulated. This one is still in the very early
stages of development but has a pretty solid track record behind it.
Hopefully more on this one soon.
Hopefully there will be more tantalizing tidbits to bring you next week...
