Some sad news from the DX guy... - November 11, '99 by JoseQ
Some sad news from the PacDX and family of emulators. The author has lost his internet connection and will be off-line at least until the next year unless some incredible changes happen. He mentions that EmuDX will continue to develop, albeit more slowly since he will not have now testers at his disposal, or people to comment on his work. MsPacman, Galaxian or Phoenix will not see the DX light of day for the remainder of the year. However, he did manage to send me a nice surprise before sending his sad message, and I'll be posting that in a few moments...

If this guy lives in the US can't he
use NETZERO for an ISP. It costs nothing
and only uses a tiny portion of the
screen for advertising banners.

If he is in the US and needs an ISP,
then this is the move he should
make. Someone please tell him.

Dumbass Andy, he needs more than that to do a site like his..Netzero clicks off after 30 mins of inactivity.....he would have to be at his terminal 24/7!

From what I understand, Localtel's Screaming.net ISP is only available in certain areas, and involves a change of phone line. British Telecom deliberately slows this transfer down in "administration" to put people off.

There's supposed to be a similar "free calls" ISP just set up in Scotland recently, but it's reportedly way oversubscribed.

Additionally, AOL's 08004U scheme is similarly oversubscribed. The words "unmetered" and "telephony" don't sit well together in this country, and it's almost entirely down to BT.

Read more about this at http://www.unmetered.org.org - the Campain for Unmetered Telecommunications.

At the mo, Liam me man, I'm sitting on a
connection in the UK that is not costing me
per calls. Finally! Wahey etc etc. It's that 08004u
service in Scotland you referred to, and while it
is having some problems just now regarding
subscriptions, at 50 quid a month it's pricey, but nice and
fast. Better than BT's Free weekend connections
lately anyway. BUt who cares when you can leave your
connection open all week. (please note, our american chums,
this facility is very new and exciting to us;)

Anyway, chances are that other unknown and personaly and slightly possibly legal factors
may also be in play in the PacDX author's situation - but that
might be me getting paranoid on a saturday night. Or is it still friday...
