The Rumor Mill - October 11, '00 by JoseQ
Ding Ding Ding! Boys and girls, gather around, as it is time once again for the weekly edition of The Rumor Mill here at EmuViews. This week Qmeister was honored with a few exclusives, and some cool news from the underground spies in the emulation scene (yes, those noises that developer's hear when they're programming late at night). I've got AGES, Final Burn, MAME, Mimic, and SegaEMU. While the list is short, it sure will be a juicy one as I have some nice pics to show you! Read on, and enjoy!
The first report that came in this week came from the Handy front. Our reporter states that the author is rarely seen at his home, thus has hardly any time to devote to the emulator. We also managed to catch him driving in with a brand new little iPaq Pocket PC. An iPaq Lynx emulator in the future? Being an iPaq owner myself, I know that I would get to port my code into it if my developer days weren't that far back in my past. I hear curiosity is starting to bite Keith with the possibilities... We'll see how that works out when Keith finds more time for his computer.
Here's one very big report. Well, not big in terms of size, but big in terms of it's content. Have you visited the AGES website lately? If you have, you might have gotten a glimpse at the Borg ship picture posted there. What does it all mean? Let me be the bearer of great news. Simply put, a new system 'will be assimilated... Resistance is futile!'. I reckon you don't have to be a Warp Engine scientist to figure out that Quinntesson is joining in the race for Sega CD emulation! Atani and that Mysterious Sega CD emulator I've been covering can now welcome Quinntesson into a shiny new third lane for this race. You might also think that with this project being part of his graduation curriculum, there's a bit of extra preasure and time to devote for this project, and I certainly understand how that goes... It's a binary thing really. We'll see where the future takes us on this one.
Speaking of Atani and the Mysterious Sega CD Emu, let's give an update on that shall we? We've learned that Atani is working on fixing the colors for the next version of SegaEMU. Here are two screenshots we managed to capture, although you should keep in mind that they were taken on different dates. Take a peek:

Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2

Atani hopes to be ready for the Linux version of SegaEMU within a few weeks. As usual, you should expect better speeds with the next version of this emulator. Atani is very hard at work on his emulator, as we pretty much get a steady stream of info from that end. Kudos to that spy bird, which of course prefers to remain anonymous.
On the Mysterious Sega CD emulator, the report was brief, but to the point. The 68000 debugger has been progressing nicely and the framework for this stand-alone emulator has also moved along a bit further. Weird enough though we caught a glimpse at the author putting covers on his Windows, as if we would not be able to spy that way. We will see about that! Anyhow, that's all I have for Sega CD Emulators this week.
Those wondering why JAE didn't post the browser version of "1942" as mentioned in the previous Rumor Mill, I must say that we underestimated the hardware on that machine. It seems the graphics system is a bit more advanced than I thought, but that doesn't mean that Norbert isn't hard at work on it. We will most likely see this on our browsers in the near future. Just thought I'd update you on that.
Going into Mimic land, we find that The Beaver is sadly involved with PC problems once again. While he works on the 32-bit version of the emulator, we found that he plans to do a quick release once that happens, and this should happen within a couple of weeks time. He plans to have "Rygar" and "Traverse USA" fixed by then.
Here's a Burning rumor from Final Burn camp. As you probably already know, the author managed to get the palette working on "Galaxy Force II". You've probably seen those screenshots at the website, which show a bit of space. With what I think was a slight security hole done on purpose by Dave, we managed to get our hands on four very colorful screenshots of "Galaxy Force II" in action. Check them out here:

Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2
Screenshot 3
Screenshot 4

And finally some Rumors from MAME from our newly stationed Phil Stroffolino correspondant. While checking up on the MAMEDEV appointed to develop the "After Burner" driver for the biggest arcade emulator in existance today, we managed to find that the game is quite playable. However, the author has found a glitch which seems to come from either the 68000 or the math co-processor emulation core. This happens just after the first refueling scene. If you're wondering, the other games based on this hardware have not been hooked up yet. The missing tilemap layers are hooked up, but there's a scrolling effect that is still not emulated properly. However, you might be happy to hear the sky/ground layers are correct as you probably noticed from the screenshots at MAME WIP. The sprite problems you see there are being worked on, and should be resolved soon.
I'd like to briefly address some of those questions posted in the previous Rumor Mill... Dynamic Recompiling Midway emulator? Pretty much dead, and not very much needed with MAME and the CPUs available today. I don't have any pictures from the Cocktail cabinet from HanaHo yet. I've been promised some for next week. And no, my comments system is not for sale. But feel free to use it here! [Grin].
Well, that's all for this edition of The Rumor Mill. It was a bit short, but I hope you enjoyed it. I did like getting all those screenshots for this week. We'll see what next week brings with it. Until then, Qmeister signs off! Thanks for reading!

Dear Sir/Madam,

With best compliment of the season, It is my pleasure to write you after much consideration, since I cannot be able to see you face to face at first. I am Raphael Kamara, the only son of late Chief Vincent Kamara, from Sierra Leone. My sources of your contact gave me the courage and confidence to rely on you.

I am writing you in absolute confidence primarily to seek your assistance to transfer our($13,500,000)U.S dollars deposited in the custody of a bank here in Abidjan to your private account pending our arival to your country.

Source of the money. My late father, chief Vincent Kamara, a native of mende district in the Northern province of Sierra Leone, was the general Manager of Sierra Leone mining co-operation (S.L.M.C.)

According to my father, This money was the income accrued from mining co-operation over draft and minor sales Before the peak of the civil war between the rebels forces of major Paul Koromah and the combined forces of ecomog peace keeping operation that almost destroyed my country, following the forceful removal from power of the Civilian Elected President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah by the rebels.

My father had already made arrangement for his family, my mother my little sister and myself to be evacuated to Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire with our personal effects.

My father deposited the fund for the safe custody until after the war when he will join us. During the war in my country, and following the indiscriminate looting of public and Government properties by the rebel forces, the sierra Leone mining coop. Was one of the targets looted and killed My father including other top Government functionaries Were attacked and killed by the rebels because of his relationship with the civilian Government of Ahmed Tejan Kabbah.

As a result of my father's death, and with the news of my uncles involvement in air crash, dashed our hope of survival. The untimely deaths caused my mothers heart failure and other related complications of which she later died in the hospital After we must have spent a lot of money on her.

Now my younger sister and myself are alone in this strange country suffering without any careor help. Without any relation, we are now like refugee sandorphans, Our only hope now is in this fund which our father deposited in the BANK.

To this effect,I humbly solicit your assistance in the followings ways.-To assist me transfer this money out of this country so i all what i needed from you is to furnish me with your banking information and your persoanl contact so that i will go and submit it to the bank in order to effect the transfer on your destinated bank account and also make a good arrangement for a joint business investment on our behalf in your country,

secure a collage for my little sister and my self in your country to further our education which we stoped during the war.

And to make arrangement for our travel with you to your country after you have transferred this fund. Most importantly. The whole documents issued to my late fatherduring the deposit is with me.

I beg to concede 15 % of this money to you for your efforts assistance. please write me through this our private email:(raphael_kamara2@yahoo.fr)for our security reasons.

Best regards.
Raphael Kamara.

Is this (the comments below) what the emu authors ment by lamer-mail, which decided to stop their work on their emus?

I always thought that words couldn't hurt that much from a lamer, but hmmm... they do have a way of sucking the blood from under your fingernails!

I found it rather ... erm... 'intresting' to see how these hate-mails actually look like!

Cheers,
