The Rumor Mill - November 1, '00 by JoseQ
It is Wednesday folks, and although I'm still getting over last night's Halloween party, I'm here in time to post a Rumor Mill just before midnight, as usual. It's true I forgot to e-mail my agents last night as I usually do, so this Mill might be shorter than usual. However, this doesn't mean that there's no Rumors this week. I've got some neat stuff that will surely interest some of you, so be sure to read the mill and post your comments as usual!
First off the bat is Norbert Kehrer and his Java Arcade Emulator collection. This time he is completing the trilogy he started with the classic "Donkey Kong". It seems the second sequel is joining it's family pretty soon, as by the end of the week. Yes, "Donkey Kong 3" is making it's way to your browser thanks to Norbert's talents. There's still some work to be done with the graphics but we're confident you will be seeing this pop up by the weekend.
Well, this arrived earlier today, but it seems it has already gone from rumor to reality. Fx3 has released version 1.6 of BNSF, his NSF player for DOS. This new version features cleaner code with some fixes and also the sound drivers are polished to be up to par with the recent crisp sounding versions of RockNES.
Here's a juicy one that arrived through our International link. I know many of you were very interested in Nintendo64 emulator news, so I went out and e-mailed a few people who owed me some favors, thus becoming Rumor Mill agents. What we found out was a bit of a surprise, but something that might very well turn out to be quite exciting. Schibo has packed most of his stuff and moved to the TR64 camp to help this project with the emulation speed! It looks very interesting for Schibo to join a project who has recently shown a bit more activity than 1964. However, we managed to find some vital stuff from Schibo at the 1964 camp, so we imagine he's still working at both places. Good to know 1964 isn't dead either.
Looking to Atani today, we managed to catch him celebrating his birthday today! And while he's only 23 now, it may not be a coincidence that he's re-focusing his efforts on the Windows port of Raine... Raine32 (23 backwards). Most of the stuff has been compiled, but some others are giving some troubles related to the generated ASM code. Either way, it looks very good. And to top it all off, Atani got himself a brand new Dreamcast with five games as his birthday present. It simply doesn't get much better than that.
And this report was worded so neatly that I am just going to copy/paste it onto the Rumor Mill. Check it out:

"TOP SECRET
AUSTRALIAN OPERATIVE REPORT

MB seems to be making extraordinary progress on his emulator.
Indictions are leaning towards 32 bit release possibly early next week, but these details are sketchy.
MB has been seen having secret meeting with executives of several leading IT companies. Our servailance of these meetings reveal that these companies are trying to hire MB, who is low on funding. As you know, MB owns his own company and has been known to contyract his "services" out for extortionate fees. past expirence shows that even during these contracts, Mimic progresses.

--- EYES ONLY ----"

And here's another!

"---- TOP SECRET ----
LATE REPORT
----- URGENT -----

It seems that MB hasa a previously unemulated arcade classic running on Mimic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Details are scetchy, but servailance shows that it works on Mimic 1.04 and is a driving-type game. A secret coded document has been intercepted, the only part that could be decoded (before the document self-destructed) was "SEGA (c) 1985".

--- EYES ONLY ----"

Mimic has sure been moving along nicely during the past few days huh? What do you think this game could be?
Sadly, all good things come to an end, and this is it for this edition of the Rumor Mill. I did get reports from AGES and Final Burn, both of which stated that there was nothing to report for this week. I'll leave you with the Sega 1985 thought so that you can place your guesses out here. Until next week, Qmeister signs off, and thanks for reading!

One Article Up: More Mimic!
One Article Down: YAPE 0.22!

Hi Guys, anyone heard about any updates on Sega CD or Saturn Emulators?

These machines had some amazing games I'd love to see running on a PC with a 3D Card (mmmm daytona)

SegaEMU is still in development for version .55 (genesis only) and SegaEMU 1.00 will be coming out closer to the end of the year hopefully..

It is unlikely that any of the emulators for the SegaCD will use such hardware. However, the hardware may be useful for the GNP (Graphic Numerical Processor) of the SegaCD which does the rotations and scaling.. Both of which are currently unemulated by any emulator.

I can't wait until the mapper that is used for WWF Wrestlemania Challenge is worked on. I think it's mapper 17. Also, I got word from Bryan McPhail that he hasn't had a chance to work on the Robocop 2 driver due to real life priorities, and that if he can't fix the bike levels & intro graphics, he might include the driver as-is in v37-b10 of MAME. I will update the WIP page if the graphics to those portions get fixed. Also, he will try to write another driver for another pcb of mine that will hopefully be dumped soon.
