The Rumor Mill LT - May 23, '01 by JoseQ

Well, this week I got just a handful of reports in, but rather than leave you empty handed, I'm going to post the LT version of the Rumor Mill. This version comes a bit light, as some major emu authors are taking breaks, and some of us are still recovering from E3. In the bag I've got reports surrounding Mimic, Bart Trzy' and his work, and some details regarding the Nintendo64 emulation scene. So let's see how that goes.

Starting with Mimic, I learned that Mike Beaver is actually doing a GUI rewrite. However, that work is probably invisible to most of us, as it will look the same; it might just work a bit better. Other things we managed to caught him doing was writing a new 6502 core, although he still hasn't done any testing with it. The SMS development also moved a little bit as Mike emulates the RAM found on some cartridges. That's still a bit glitchy though. What's holding the next release? The GUI rewrite. Once that's done, we might see another Mimic hit the scene; although don't expect to see everything else I mentioned here included in the release.

On Bart's land, we found out that he's not devoting much time to Genital lately. He's been a bit ill lately, and has finals coming up. What he plans to do in the future seems interesting though. A 68K debugger utilizing the actual chip from a Sega Saturn. We'll see what that spawns in the future. It should help with perfecting Genital68K if anything.

On the Nintendo64 scene, we saw a bit of action recently with a couple of emulators coming out. However, I've heard that most of them will be taking a break now. The real good news is that a new Nintendo64 emulator will surface in the near future. Apparently, this mysterious emulator will splash the scene in a few weeks, and that it will ring some life into Nemu, which should follow with a release utilizing the mystery emu's graphic plugin, which apparently is very nice. We'll see how all that develops.

Well, that's all folks. Like I said, it is the LT version. Probably by next week there will be more stuff to report; there will be no E3 to recover from, and I should not have this cold I'm going through. Until next week, Qmeister signs off, and thanks for reading!

good n64 emus? ROFLOL there has yet to be a decent N64 emu yet. Now if an emu comes out with high compatabilty rate and a gui similar to ZSNESX or Nesticle then we will finally have a good N64 emu.
