What ROMs? - June 21, '01 by JoseQ

Before the e-mail flood continues, I guess I should post something, so that at least those who read the news don't drop me a note. There are no ROMs for download on this site. They made a brief appearance after the site came back from it's small hiatus, but they are now gone, and most likely for good. All the bandwidth I have for SpeedHost.Com is now in use, so I can't use it for downloads like that anymore. It's not because of the banners, it's not because of legal troubles, it's just because there is no bandwidth and since my retirement from emulation is not too far in the future, I'm not going to invest more money into bandwidth for ROM downloads. Well, I guess it's because of the banners, since they don't pay for the bandwidth, but there's nothing I (or anybody) can do about that. The ad banner market is gone to about 5% of what it used to be, so no matter how many people click on the banners, or see the popups, there will not be enough money to cover the costs. I apologize for the sudden dissapearance, but I don't have much of a choice.

Now, I'm sure there is going to be a lot of people asking me to reconsider, as well as what I mentioned about my retirement in the not too distant future. There will be no reconsideration about the ROMs, and the retirement is something I've been thinking about during the past few days. I'm fully aware that a lot of people don't want me to leave, so this is in no way a means for me to ask for your support. I guess that fans of the site will be dissapointed when it happens, but we must all realize that I can't do this forever, so this is something that will happen sooner or later. I know that it's better later than sooner, but we'll see, maybe I get some renewed strengths somehow.

The reasons for my thoughts is that I would like to spend more time playing games, rather than talking about it. My job, and my business keep me too busy, so the little time I have left, is for this site. I guess I need a break. As with everything that anybody does for years, I'll probably miss it, and make an attempt at a comeback, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

As I've always said, the site will never close. I will leave it open for 'archive/museum' purposes for those that like to read old stuff. The InterViews / ReViews will always be there, and I might actually keep posting new ReViews if the ReViewers continue to submit them. The same for possible new InterViews by me, and Rumor Mills maybe on a weekly basis like I do now, although that's by far what takes more time out of me for this site.

Well there you have it. I guess there will be a lot of comments, and I'll try to reply to all of them if they're not too many. Just to recap, this retirement is still in the future, it's nothing happening soon, or totally planned. Just wanted to give a little heads up on a possible happening here at EmuViews.
