Last Update: (12:46am EST) I've got some
more information before I close the subject. For those wondering how
long has the emulator been in development, four months seems to be
the amount of time devoted to it. On a more curious note, Mario started
talking in December of last year. The current status of this amazing
piece of code, is "On Hold". The authors didn't expect this kind of
piracy reaction to the emulator and have closed the page for re-design
and to reflect their strong stand against it. The authors are considering
ways to avoid this kind of behaviour. The reaction from the scene will
dictate the future of this emulator. We certainly want to congratulate
Epsilon and RealityMan on an incredible technical achievement.
|UltraHLE stopping? - January 28, '99 by JoseQ
(10:44pm EST) - The UltraHLE Page is
updates and closed as mentioned in this news article earlier. The authors express
their feelings as to the reaction the emulation community had to this
release. The ROM finding frenzy that occured on the IRC, was not
expected by the authors causing them to put the emulator on hold.
Depending on what the future unfolds, the status of the emulator
will change. The developers feel the scene is not ready to accept
something like this as the technical masterpiece that it is, thus
hurting Nintendo and their efforts to sell their console. I agree
with the authors in that this is not the main intent of this
emulator. Please understand that this emulator is not a reason to
go crazy trying to find ROMs. The best way to play Mario 64 or any
other N64 game, is through a Nintendo 64 console.
(9:00pm) "It seems the emulation community is not ready for something like this so the unfortunate news is that the UltraHLE Project ends just as soon as it began" reads a
quote from an article just posted at IGN.Com which
apparently got on the phone with the UltraHLE authors.
This is not final as the UltraHLE is still up, contrary
to part of what the article mentions, but it appears the
authors have decided to pull out after proving that N64
is possible emulation. That they have definitely proved,
and it seems that will be enough. I will bring more news
updates just as they develop! Also an InterView with one
of the authors may be appearing here as well. Stay tuned!
