Beastie Feastie - October 20, '99 by Bifordus Maximus
Game:Beastie FeastieCompany:Epos Corporation
Type:PlatformPlayers:1/2

Upon first Glance of this title, I had to look again to make sure there was a "t" in feastie. But this title is better than "The Glob" which sounds like a rip-off of my favorite American movie. All kidding aside though, this is a fun game to play. But usually eating a lot of food is not good for you and should, technically, make you fatter or expand at least. :)
When I played this game for the first time my reaction was "What heck is this!!" But after putting in a quarter (pressing #3) and starting the game I thought to myself "hey! This is pretty good"! You are A glob or blob who's hungry and needs to eat all the food on the stage before your energy runs out our you get caught by assorted wildlife. I saw gators, bunnies, monkeys, froggers, and pigs known as porkers (haha). Too bad there were no Lions, Tigers, or Bears... OH my! Every time I play this game I start salivating. I never wanted a pear so bad in my life!
The Blob itself whose name is Toby is cute with it's blue color and undefined shape while it pulsates or Jiggles if you will. Remember it has no shape but it is able to grab the ceiling with two hands and press the elevator button also. You run (lack of a better word) through the stage taking elevators up' N' down squashing innocent animals with the elevator or pouncing on them from the ceiling all at the same time while trying to stay alive by collecting all the food. Each stage is different and the omnivores get faster and faster as the levels progress. Some of them can even use the elevators in later levels! Like the Energizer bunny this game keeps going and going...
The sound the blob makes while moving is utterly horrible but somehow it manages to fit the game. That sound can not be duplicated and I don't know how they came up with it. There is music in the game. It's a sort of jingle but very faint. That might be a problem with MAME but don't quote me on that. The sound when beating the stage is also atrocious; I can't explain that either. The graphics are sub-par even for that era. The colors for the food are right-on though. Control is responsive enough so that you can dodge the mammals while the button response is also on the mark.
This game was also made in the golden era of arcade gaming made by a company that most likely jumped on the bandwagon and just made this game in two days so they could get a piece of the market. I have never heard of the Epos Corporation or what Epos stands for until now. Apparently they specialize in INTERACTIVE TECHNOLOGY. That's what it said on their website. Anyway, Beastie Feastie is a fun game to play if you can get past the sounds. Mame emulates it with no problem. Despite the flaws this game should definitely be part of your collection!
