Chiller - March 1, 2000 by Eazy Cheeze
Game:ChillerCompany:Exidy
Type:ShooterPlayers:1/2

When I first put my virtual quarter in the virtual slot and started up the game, I was greeted with a naked body, several in fact, tied down with straps concealing the more... private areas, and I was expected to shoot them. Obviously being a nice guy I didn't want to, but hey, it was how we got the points so hey, why not? So, blam blam blam, woo hoo got enough points! next level, blam blam blam, oops shoot the daggers... argh I got hit. Damn... pretty tough (and rough) game. I actually could get used to blowing away corpses for no other reason than gratuitous violence.
This game marks the first time an arcade game with gratuitous violence, blood, gore and all that, really made it big in an arcade. In a time when the videogaming industry was being scrutinized closely, this, of all games, went overlooked by the censors. You wanna complain about Mortal Kombat and its children being violent? Well they're a walk in the friggin' park compared with this game. My STOMACH turned as I clicky-clicky'd my way to the next level. I saw horrible things. Things trying to take away my points (by knocking off more chunks of tied-up human than I did). So I'd have to shoot them too. The graphics, while pretty bad by today's standards, are still quite realistic. A word of advice: Don't eat while you play. The sound is pretty good for such an early game, with every scream and shriek chilling the very bone.
The challenge level is pretty high; I found myself racing to dismember as many bodies as I could in the meager time limit; if I didn't get enough points in each level, it was Game Over!
