Pac'n'Pal - May 27, '00 by Dorsola
Game:Pac'n'PalCompany:Namco
Type:PlatformPlayers:1/2

Here's yet ANOTHER Pacman game! ... and what inspired Namco to do this one, I'm not entirely sure. Unfortunately, I'm gonna come down fairly hard on this review, because personally I think Pac & Pal is the most boring of all the Pacman sequels. Our original pie-sliced hero runs around in another maze, this time collecting key-cards that open gateways, which then allow you to pick up various fruits and other items in the maze. In addition to the ever-present ghost-monsters, which still chase you relentlessly, there's a new face to the playing field - a cute little green monsterette (supposedly named Pal), who runs around trying to steal the items you uncover! She can't hurt you, but she does take away from your bonus points if you let her take the items back to her home, which is where the ghost-monsters live as well.
And that, folks, is how you play the game. Not much more to say there... yup, it's unfortunately a really boring game. To boot, it is also a bit of an eyesore, the music in the game is repetitive and nonsensical, sound effects are ... they don't sound anything like Pacman... and I'm frequently having trouble getting the joystick to do what I want. It's also an easy game - not much to it, really. About the only thing it has going for it is that it emulates well - MAME has no problem playing it at full-speed even on slower computers, so if you like the game, you should be set! :)
