Paperboy - December 3, 2000 by D@Z
Game:PaperboyCompany:Atari Games
Type:PlatformPlayers:1/2/3

Paperboy is one of my personal favourite arcade games. It caused a bit of a stir when it was released as Mark Caesar and Robin Hallingstad filed a law suit against Atari, claiming they had stolen there idea for this great video game.A year before the release the men had given Atari details of a game that was very similar.Well who ever thought of it had a great idea!
When I first saw it in the arcades with handlebars mounted on the front of the machine I just had to have a go.Three routes are available to choose from: Easy Street,Middle road and Hard way.
I`m sure you can work out why they are called that.
As the game starts with its cool flipping screen change, you are shown the houses that you must deliver the papers to.Each time you complete the stage which is in days of the week you will then have to do an obstacle course which includes jumps, hitting targets and crossing bridges. But before that you must deliver the papers.
So your pedaling along at the start and you see the houses, the ones with the welcome doormats are the ones you need to deliver to,you can either aim your paper to hit the door or get it in the Sun letterbox which will give you more points.
Sounds easy but while your doing this you have to deal with some tricky situations, like dodging cars, dogs, cats, drunks, men at work, men fighting, crazy lawnmowers, remote controlled cars, drains, tyres and other thing,so its not to easy. Also along the way you will need to collect more papers as you can only hold ten at a time. The houses that do not want papers I tend to throw papers at the windows as you get points for it,hitting other objects gives you points to,like robbers, grave stones and loads of others. At the end of the day you will be shown what houses you delivered to and if you misses any,if you did they will not be on your list for the next day.If you have a pefect delivery you will have extra houses to deliver to the next day.
Overall this game is easy to play and great fun,the handlebars are cool but they do take a bit of practice, however now it is emulated (very good emulation, not just in mame) a pad or joystick will be used.So get your paperbag ready and get pedaling for some great fun.
