Cabal by Maddog
Game:CabalCompany:Red Corporation
Type:ShooterPlayers:1-2

One of the great shooters of the past decade,Cabal was an extremely playable game, that kept you coming back for more.Emulation-wise,this one is fresh out of the oven it the latest Raine v0.16a.Let's take a look at it,shall we?
You control one brave soldier and a crosshair. The soldier walks left and right at the bottom of the screen, trying to avoid incoming enemy fire.At the same time you have to move the crosshair over the enemies and blow them to pieces.Your task is to get through 5 levels packed with enemy forces, sending them back to their maker. Each level consists of 4 sublevels,so there's a total of 20 different screens to tackle-not an easy mission,I can assure you!Not to mention that at the end of each level awaits one big mean baddy, just to make things a "little" bit harder for our hero!To pass each level, you have to deal a fair amount of damage to the enemy,as measured by the counter at the bottom of the screen.Once this is full, the rest of the enemy is destroyed and you may proceed to the next batch/screen.To aid your mission, you have not only the standard peashooter, but also several grenades and the occasional special weapons. These increase substantially the amount of damage dealt to the enemies and make things slightly easier for a few moments. One good point is that you can shoot and reduce to rumble most of the background scenery, reducing the enemies' hiding places and getting a good score boost at the same time. One interesting thing is that enemies are not just walking along. That would be toooo easy, would n't it?Very soon, heavy machinery appears too (tanks, armored cars, choppers and planes zooming overhead) to give you even more hassle.Hot lead and flying grenades are always there in this game to make your life hell!
Cabal does not rely on its' visual or auditory qualities to keep you going.Graphics are pretty standard (OK,each level has different backgrounds, but nothing really impressive here) and sound just scarcely does the job-a few repeated effects only. No,what makes this game so desirable is its' playability. This game is challenging, fun and keeps you coming back for more. The learning curve is correctly pitched too.Even rookies can pass a couple of screens and play for a decent amount of time, but it'll need a veteran,battle-hardened soldier to take this game to the end,so everyone 'll be happy after all!Two players simultaneously make it even more fun,so I think it's definitely worth a try.Although wrinkly from the ten looong years since 1988 that it comes from,it's still a very desirable game that most people will enjoy.
Cabal is emulated by the latest version (0.16a) of the ever-evolving Raine. It is very well emulated and sound is supported, too.Not being very demanding,it'll allow most computers to play it well ,so almost everybody will get the chance to play and enjoy it.Beware only that sound emulation seems to be slightly buggy (it's just been implemented!) and several problems have been reported.
Go check this baby out,it's really worth it!Kill, kill, kill! ;)
