Waku Waku 7 by BMan2
Game:Waku Waku 7Company:Sunsoft
Type:FightingPlayers:1/2

Waku Waku 7. On first glance, you'd think: platformer. Maybe a puzzle game - and what a stupid title anyway! Alas you would be wrong. Waku Waku 7 is a fighter - and about as different a fighting game as you are ever likely to see.
Waku Waku is apparently something resembling the word "Exciting" - but don't quote me on it. The "7"?? Well - there lies the concept of the game - I think! The object of Waku Waku 7 - is to take your character - and defeat the other 6 characters (oooooh .. another seven reference!) - to get the seven magic stones of power. Pretty out there huh? Did I mention you can play as a tank - or a person on a fluffy toy?? :P
Okay - so in the myriad of Neogeo fighting games - why should you play this one? Let's look at it from a technical point of view. Graphically, Waku Waku 7 is big, it's bold and it's bright. The characters are beautifully drawn in a wonderfully smooth way - and the character animations work in well - also containing good collision detection for the gameplay. The animated intro is a nice touch at the beginning of the game - and the static cutscenes are concise and in your face. Pretty high praise huh? In fact - I would go so far to say that if eye candy is your game - there aren't TOO many better drawn games in this genre.
Gameplay is smooth - and entertaining - although I found just a little on the easy side - not a good factor for "return visits." The control system is well designed - and flows around a natural fighting game format. As a further help - you are even given the majority of the special moves WHEN you select your character - what a bonus!! - a game that tells you how to play it! Sound of course is still untested - but come on -- it's just GOTTA be cutesie/ditsy - right?? It wouldn't be the game without it!
Variety is the spice of life folks - and occasionally you've got to break away from the norn - throw away KOF for a few days - and give Waku Waku 7 a try. It might not be the best game on the planet - but the concept is executed well - and it's just different enough to keep the whole gaming experience interesting for a little while.
