Prepare thyself, for it be time to travel to the land of Ireland... Only in this case
be sure to pack ye Irish Spring as we are heading headfirst into total crap.
It seems the CGA colored forests of Ireland are under seige by a tiny evil Leprechaun. You are
cast into the role of a goofy fellow who must grab (Or shall I say dive into) the
Leprechaun's pot of gold and escape to the next level, which you then repeat ad
nauseum. As you make your way to the pot of gold you must "tag" the trees around
the level which in turn adds points (Gold) to the pot. This is also the only real
defense you have in this game as the Leprechaun, for a reason we are never told,
seems to like the trees and will "untag" the trees you have already hit. This in
turn takes away the points and your score. That's it...that's the game.
Now while
games like this don't need much of a plot to be fun, this just isn't fun on any
level...even for kids. The graphics are very CGA in presentation and just completely
bland compared to other games of it's time, though the little rainbow effect was neat.
Sound isn't too bad but not terribly exciting either on a whole average. It just goes
on and on and really offers no difficulty (I got about 200,000 points when I got bored
and purposely killed myself...not once did I die beforehand). For the most part the
Leprechaun himself gets a bit faster and will move the pot of gold more frequently.
Though the game is primative (And I mean next to Intellivison games even) I actually
lost 2-4 FPS here and there on my 200MMX system. Not a big deal though , but it was
there.
In the end the game is boring and just a waste of time and the only reason to
even bother with it would be if you played it years ago and it brings back good
memories (Yeah, maybe all 3 of you). Otherwise, spend your time with Galaga and
leave this game to the Banshee.
