Burger Time - 20081999120000 by Shadow Lord

Burgertime: if that name means anything to you, you must be the same age as me! Most twentysomething vintage arcade buffs will remember sandwiching Mr. Pickle, Mr. Sausage and Mr. Egg with a well-placed bun drop. By now, the teenagers in the crowd must be completely confused! Burgertime was an arcade game back in the very early 80's, essentially a Pac-Man clone at heart. You must assemble hamburgers by walking across giant buns, lettuce leaves, tomato slices and beef patties, all the while avoiding ambulatory burger condiments (by the way, a fried egg on a hamburger IS rather good, give it a shot...).
If the evil foodstuffs corner you, you can freeze them with a cloud of pepper. Also, you can do them in by dropping a burger portion on top of them, or tricking them into following you across one as you drop it. If you never played Burgertime, this must seem utterly abstract... but that's the good part! Arcade games like these are a thing of the past: this was before the tedious barrage of Street Fighter II clones destroyed the imagination of game designers worldwide.
So, what's bad? Most arcade fans of today will be tired with it fast: the levels are repetitious and there is no real reward for completeing levels short of a quick jaunty tune. Also, Peter Pepper (our hero) moves decidedly slower than the enemies, making narrow escapes very difficult to pull off.
So for the younger players, I urge you to give this a shot, and bear with the primitive graphics and sound: you'll find it is a refreshing change to not know what to do with a cursory glance at the game screen :).
