Gun Dealer by Jellodyne
Game:Gun DealerCompany:Dooyong
Type:PuzzlePlayers:1 or 2

Gun Dealer is a Tetris-like puzzle game where the player tries to line up falling playing card rather than colored blocks. The next three cards to drop are displayed and these cards can be swapped with the currently dropping card for strategic placement. Points are awarded by lining up at least three cards of the same suit, at least three cards in sequence or at least three of a kind. At the end of each round points are subtracted for each card left on the playing field. If the player has any points left at the end of each round he or she is rewarded with a cartoon picture of a decresingy-clad woman.
Gun dealer is the first 'adult' game featured in MAME. While this may cause a rush to judgement by some, its innovative and challenging gameplay warrents a second look. The extremely low points associated with assigned to three card of the same suit requires that the player try to build more difficult combinations to have any success at the game. The more difficult combinations tend to clutter the playing field and increase the number of cards left at the end of the round. A delicate balance must be maintained between shooting for the big points and clearing away the unused cards. The controls are intuitive and also the graphics and sound are relatively simple but very well done.
The game features a unique two player mode where each player controls every other card in the same game. This mode suffers some awkwardness on a keyboard (but not as much as, say, a 4-player Gauntlet session) but may be interesting with the V-Stick or another multi-player controller setup.
The down side of Gun Dealer is that its difficulty ramping doesn't allow for extended sessions. Points subtracted per unused card increase dramatically per round, and the increased rate at which cards drop, combined with a playfield which is only 5 cards high cause the game to be basically unplayable 8 to 10 rounds in.
Unlike some other 'adult' games, Gun Dealer is not a simple clone of another mainstream game with an added sexual element, but rather it's a challenging and interesting game in its own right, which happens to feature some hand drawn nudity.
