Pipi & Bibi by Maddog
Game:Pipi & BibiCompany:Ryouta Kikaku
Type:PlatformPlayers:1/2

Hmmmmm (blush),it seems this one was one of the most anticipated games in Raine...I suppose it was because everybody wanted to see its' great gameplay ;).Well,it's here now and I must state this game is well,WEIRD!Now,if your curiosity is triggered, let me explain...
Pipi and Bibi's is a platformer. You control a weird clown-like guy,who has to move around the screen, sabotaging some computer thingies that lie around.Several equally weird meanies chase you around.Any touch with them is fatal, but you can stun them for a while,by "shooting" them,or even drop them to a lower level or make them die for a little while,by continually pressing fire after the initial stun. Soon, though, they will come back after you again,in a frantic,non-stop chase. To move around, you use the various elevators and trampolinos that lie at places, since every screen consists of four floors.Once all computers are sabotaged, you have a little time to make it to the exit before everything blows up.The gameplay reminds Elevator Action somewhat, with some extra "features".Well, guys, now comes the "interesting" stuff:Finish a screen and you get to see a portion of the body of a young lady...Finish a level (four screens) and you get to see even "more" of her... ;)
Some of you might think by now that this is the game's only interest. But,let me tell you, there'a actually a game in there somewhere! The action is hot and you'll need most of your platformer skills to cast a look at the game's beauties.Graphics are not the game's strong point really (well,OK,it depends how you look at it...). They are functional though and they have a welcome weird and cartoony style.Sound is pretty good and matches the gameplay well, which btw is quite challenging and tempting.
Unfortunately a couple of things mar the game a bit.My worse complaint is the difficulty to avoid enemies when they come into couples, since you'll find it is very hard to stun them both and pass them in time.Usually, one of them recovers/is n't stunned and your sprite bites the dust! Also, collision detection seems a bit iffy and biased against you sometimes.Worse still, getting killed means you are plonked right back to the starting point (very annoying when you have progressed to the other side of the screen) AND dying after triggering the time bombs means you'll have to do it from scratch again!
Still,a fairly interesting little game.It is emulated in Raine 0.18,in a pretty flawless way. There's also a second similar version, called Whoopee (C)Toaplan, which is much the same, but a welcome addition nonetheless...
So,if platformers are your bread and butter,or if you are into weird, oriental games with the occasional "kinky" touch :) you could do a lot worse than this.It is quite fun,in a strange but satisfying way!
