Plotting by Maddog
Game:PlottingCompany:Taito
Type:PuzzlePlayers:1/2

Are you tired of all the huge and complex arcades of the recent years? Do you want to return to the plain and playable games of the distant past? Are you looking for a game with the word "simplicity" written all over it? Well, look no further,Taito's Plotting is the game you've been looking for...
Plotting is a puzzle game. You control "something" that can only be described as a red blob with eyes.In front of you lie several blocks with different colours and shapes on them.By shooting them with the same kind of block, the matching blocks disappear and the block adjacent to them bounces back to you, to be the next one you'll have to shoot. If it has no matching within reach, you lose a life and get a lightning icon, which allows you to shoot anything at will.Lose all lifes or run out of time and it's bye-bye time...Clear the allocated number of blocks and you can proceed to the next stage, where you'll follow the same procedure all over again, only the pattern of the blocks will be trickier. You can also use walls to bounce the block to the correct place and...that's basically all there is to it!Easy as 1,2,3,eh? :)
Graphics in this game are,erm,simple...Just a couple of blocks and minimal backgrounds. It kinda reminds you of the very early arcade years.Imagine your surprise when you find out that Plotting dates only back to the fairly recent 1989!Sorry,Taito,others did MUCH better several years earlier...Hmmm,dunno, probably the company had a leftover supply of small sized roms and decided to burn them with a game without many memory consuming graphics :) The sound is equally simplistic, with a short tune and a few effects.Personally,I find it pretty decent, but there's a slight chance that it'll get on your nerves soon...The game's best point is the playability of the whole thing,as there's actually an absorbing game hidden in there and the challenge is fairly adequate to keep you going for a while. The ability for a simultaneous two-player game is a welcome bonus, although I'd like a more competitive element (say, the first to finish the stage could get an extra bonus or something.)
Plotting is emulated in Raine, which is probably the emulator with the most exclusive and unique games around. It performs very well, without any observable glitches. So is the game worth it?As the size of the ROM is a measly 71K,my opinion is that you can afford to get it and try it at least once. You may find a good time consumer in there, especially if SIMPLE is the word that describes best the games you like...
