Rumor ReView - July 13,1999 by anticupid
Just like last week not much seems to be happening on the rumor front. Thispast week saw lots of development on the Super Nintendo emulation front withSNEeSe, Zsnes and Snes9x all reporting on the progress they are making, including Starfox being emulated by Zsnes. Not much other news reallyhappened this past week so we are still stuck with the backlog of pendingrumors.
The most popular pending rumor seems to be the Dynamic Recompiling Williamsemulator, which continuing on its slow and steady path. In last weeks rumormill JoseQ updated us a bit on this one saying it should be able to reachfull speed on a P2-300, however there is no sound or input routines in theemulator currently.
This past week did not bring any new Shark sightings so we will have to gowith the last we heard about this and wait for the pending release followingthe completion of beta testing.
The Sega System32 emulator made a bit of a public showing this week when itwas announced that the color palette has finally been emulated, however arelease is still pending.
No Raine landed Direct from cloud X this week, however word came that twomore games were added, "Extermination" and "Grand Cross Pinball"."Extermination" is a Taito Z80 game running on the same hardware as "The NewZealand Story" and "Grand Cross Pinball" appears to be a strange andfuturistic take on pinball. Both new games are pending arrival in the nextversion of Raine.
The big Q also brought word last week that another arcade company isconsidering licensing their roms like Capcom has done. According to JoseQthis is a really big player but no specifics were given. I would speculateit is not Hasbro since they have been releasing the Atari games ascommercial products and are planning more releasing for the future.Hopefully more will develop on this soon so the legality of emulation willnot have a big pending question mark over it, much like this rumor.
Lastly, on a sad note, the Neo Geo roms online are already consuming theallocated bandwidth so the rumor that Emuviews would expand the number ofNeo Geo roms being hosted has been put on hold until something more developson that front. On the positive side though some of the Neo Geo roms havechanged since JoseQ first put them online. You can now find the classicPuzzle Bobble among the other roms in the Neo Geo section.
Well that's it for this week. Hopefully next week I will have someinteresting developments to write about...
