The Rumor Mill - July 15,1999 by JoseQ
Once again, Q here to tell you about anything that'sbeing rumored in the emulation scene. Most of you knowthat the last few weeks have been a little low on action, same with the rumors. Not that I'm not getting any reports, but rather that all reports say basically the same thing, there's not much going on. However, that doesnt mean thatnothing will happen. So let's get to things that may beof interest to you.
You may have noticed the Raine page update with twomore games being added to the emulator, and then you mayremember a Rumored posted here long time ago about Raineworking on some non-regular games. Well what can I say, none of those two are it. I know it's an old rumor, andactually I haven't received any updates, but judging fromRichard and company's talent, it is something that shouldbe appearing fairly soon. I'll try to dig up more on itthis week.
From the Shark waters you may remember that a beta wasprivately released not too long ago. I've heard from goodsources that a public version nears, and should come outvery soon. Expect mainly fixes and extra features added tothe emulator as the authors feel that Shark may not begoing much further. Instead, it seems a new and interestingproject may be in the Horizon for the clan. This is longterm planning though. More on thatas more information is made available.
Another emulator I haven't mentioned here in a whileis Meka. Main reason being the same, not much has happenedto it since its latest release two weeks ago. However, design has continued and a couple of cool additionsare looming to appear in probably the next release.
Spy birds flying around another console project, knownas v7800 has provided very similar reports. The author hasbeen kept away from the project being busy with unrelatedwork. Don't expect a release soon from this area.
There have also been some Rumors about PSEmu Pro notbeing dead after all. This is something I haven't been ableto find out any official info about, but if the authorstill holds his opinion when the incidents occured, theemulator should not come out to the public eye. I wouldhold any thoughts until any official word is released.
I would expect to have a new MAME release very soon nowwith support for a couple of new games. You must rememberthat the northern emisphere is having its Summer season, thus creating a lot of activities aside from emulationfor authors and webmasters alike. However, progress is stillhappening in all areas including emulators for more recentsystems like Sega System 32, and new consoles. That's it fornow. Thanks for reading!
