The Rumor ReView - August 10,1999 by anticupid
The hot rumor of the week is a new emulator called "The Impact" and it looks like it isgoing to live up to its name. The pending goal of this emulator is to makeNamco System 11/12, Taito FX1, and Capcom ZN1/ZN2 games playable on aPentium II/III class computer with a 3D graphics card. Their web site isalready showing pictures of "Street Fighter EX2" and "Rival Schools". Thisrelease is likely going to change how companies look at emulation, both forthe good and the bad, as a lot of games just being released couldpotentially be playable in this emulator.
Another rumor that is not quite as hot as "The Impact" is the announcementfrom EmuHQ that a new Nintendo 64 emulatoris in development and pending release this Friday. EmuHQ mentions that thisemulator has seven games fully playable and as many as twenty partiallyplayable. Of special interest to a lot of people will likely be thesuggestion that Mortal Kobat 4 is one of the games that is fully playable.
What about last week's hot rumor you say? It turns out last week's hot rumorwas indeed about Konami games such as Simpsons and Sunset Riders being addedto MAME. This rumor was confirmed on Saturday with the release of MAME 0.36beta 2. We are still waiting for Mame32 to get back in sync with the currentMAME beta track, look for a release sometime soon. The last rumor about MAMEfrom last week was something related to the Hood, although by Guardian angeldidn't have any information on that one I expect to be hearing more aboutthis pending rumor soon.
That is all that is new this week since nothing new developed on thesepending rumors: the hidden games in Raine as well as the Windows port, andthe Sega System 32 emulator. We all also have to continue to wait for theDynamic Williams Emulator JoseQ has mentioned as having amazing speed and anew version of HiVE that seems to have disappeared from the radar screen, could this two rumors be related, only time will tell for sure. While a newemulator may be on the Horizon from Dead Serious Clan, nothing new surfacedabout Jas-Sys1 and Retrocade after I dug up their respective corpses lastweek. These weeks news is buzzing with information about console emulatorshowever PSEmu Pro, Virtual Gaming Station, Meka and v7800 are not among thetopics flying around. Lastly, the rumor about a big company jumping on boardand officially licensing their roms would appear to be ON-HOLD at very leastsince no information has come to light since the first tidbit.

That's all for this week, tune in tomorrow for JoseQ's Rumor Mill.
