A Year Ago Today... - October 04,1999 by JoseQ
Well, I believe it is time again to go back one yearand look back at what was happening in the emulationworld exactly one year ago the day. It was certainly avery exciting weekend last year starting with the Raine Move to their owndomain name on Friday, October 2nd. This was one of thefirst big emu sites to join Emulation World, and getit's domain name in the process. However, while that maynot sound as exciting to you, take a look at releaseday Saturday.
I remember I was surprised as soon as I woke up withnew releases for both System 16 andM72. This System 16 marks the first time we got to hearthe correct emulated sound in games like Out Run, Golden Axe, and Alien Storm. Samples were finally no longer neededto hear voices in some of those games. The new M72 provided us with the first opportunity to play R-type 2 in our PCalong with six other new games. It is really sad that thisemulator stopped being supported.
The day continued with the last DOS build of Snes9xsupported by Jerremy Koot. Needing someone to take overthe DOS build, he made that last release from which I'mguessing he found Telekawaru, who has been doing the DOSport ever since.
And another big release was the appearance of MAME 0.34 beta 4 which includedthe much anticipated support for Tiger Heli! Other goodgames in it include Express Raider, Arkanoid 2 and Karate Champ! This was one great day indeed.
I guess this article wasone of the "Rumor Mill" pre-cursors since in it, I didmention a couple of rumors regarding the Dead Serious Clan, new PSX emus in development and other things.
And lastly for October 4, a new Retro Radio release which featured his very popular intro on how to collect arcadegames. However, that show is probably no longer available, unless you purchase Shane's Retro Radio CD-ROM collectionwhich is available from the same URL as the show.

I'll be sure to keep covering last year's happeningsevery now and then from this column. Thanks for reading!
