Anticupid's Rumor ReView - October 12,1999 by anticupid
Is there a hot topic this week? Well if there is it would have to be the newversion of Raine that keeps coming up in rumors. Well it may seem like theserumors are pure speculation but inside sources have tipped their hat sayingit is fairly close to happening, when is still up in the air with everyonetrying to solve the game “Mario is Missing”. There is also speculation thatthere are at least six more games playable in the next version, if you takeinto account “Ghox” and “Exzisus” that were announced and the hidden games“Gun Lock” and “Grid Seeker” that would leave two more, what could those be?“Peek A Boo” which has surfaced as a game in the next version of Mame is onthe wanted list for Raine, could this Arkanoid clone be one of theadditional games? Also, What about the original “Arkanoid”?
Another rumor a lot of people are waiting to here more about is thedevelopment of a Sega 32x emulator. From the news that has been surfacingover the last couple of weeks it would seem there have been a few of thesein development. So for though, none of them has been able to complete theirobjective because they need to have a bios dump. Could this badly neededbios be coming soon so that we can play all those dumps from Genesis Power.
Another bios that needs to be dumped is that of the NeoGeo handhelds, theone being most sought after is the NeoGeo Pocket Color but a working NeoGeoPocket bios would also be welcomed. If these could be dumped the skilledprogrammers interested in emulating these systems could begin their work.
It also seems a lot of the previous hot topics have become dormant, whatcould this mean for promising projects like RetroFX and the Sega System32emulator? There are also projects from the past such as Retrocade, Hive, Jasand PSEmu Pro that all but disappeared without a trace. Did all theseauthors just quite the scene or are they secretly working on projects? Onlytime will really tell but a little detective work could just be theencouragement that is needed...

Off to JoseQ for some more rumors.

I think we all love getting new games for Christmas...So I hope those emu authors step on it soon!! Then again, that won't stop me from helping our industry and buying some of the new ones! C'mon guys, we're just helping our fellow gamer by providing free access to emulation, and not trying to hurt the industry that makes it possible to begin with...Don't let Nintendo catch you pirating, or we'll all be in trouble...or at least, we won't get any presents, heh...C-ya

Love the message board section of the news. Great idea to create a more interactive site. About some of these missing emulators, what's the deal? They are all the best emulators everyone wants to see, and none of them are surfacing! What about the Williams/Midway DynaRec emulator? I thought that was coming along well, along with the Sega System 32 emu....
This makes me doubt the likelihood of The Impact. Hopefully these will come around before the end of the year.

I haven't heard anything at all from any of those two (Williams / Sega 32) in quite a while. About The Impact, I have a weird feeling about that one. Williams might go back to work probably when the author gets more time and a motivation boost.

I think retroreaper is right about the cristmas period. since most(some ex.Zsnes) of the emuprogrammers are out of school at that time. But I think it would be a treat to release some of those good emu's around christmas. that would be a good preseent. Plus since so many other companies rely on the holidays to make their money they wont notice these quality (all of them)emu's being released. I think december of 1999 will be the most surprising month of the decade for emulation.

Hi:

I definitely hope so too. Although I seem to remember that holiday seasons are usually off periods for emulators since the authors are enjoying their spare time. I remember I was out of town on holiday and I didn't miss much. Although New Years Eve was a big one with S16
release and MAME close to that date as well...

Who knows. :)
