MESS 0.36 b7! - October 18,1999 by JoseQ
Exactly a week after their latest release, MESS hasbeen updated to version 0.36b7 (DOS Port). You candownload this new version from the EmulatorDownload Page. This version has more changes thanyou would expect. First of all, it is based on the MAME0.36b7 source code, which includes the Sidewinder fixes.New drivers include support for the 'Kim 1' system, and the 'Tandy 1000TX' which is an early PC clone! Thereare of course a bunch of fixes which you can read aboutin the messnew.txt file. The page also mentions that 0.36b6for the Mac should be available soon, followed by 0.36b7shortly afterwards. Thanks to Retrogames for the news. Enjoy!

Wow, they managed to emulate a PC on a PC.

What's next? A version of Bleem for the Sony Playstation?

That's a very ignorant view. MESS is an emulator that runs on many platforms - not just the PC. Besides, there's a version of vMac for Mac, a version of UAE for the Amiga, and so on. Occasionally it can be useful to emulate prehistoric hardware like that to run software that just doesn't work any more on todays computers.

Regards,
Richard

You must note that MESS is multi-platform. Yes: it emulates a PC on a PC, but it also emulates a PC on a Mac.

There is a MESS front end reported at www.retrogames.com - the author's homepage is at http://user.online.be/~vial6578

Has anyone noticed that MAME and MESS are currently on identical version numbers?

Just an observation.

This is actually because MAME and MESS share the same core code. :)
