Dorsola at it again! - November 19,1999 by JoseQ
Would you like to read some fresh new ReViews? Then visit the ReView Section where three new ReViews have been posted. These are herethanks to the latest TMS34010 changes to MAME which allowedDorsola play a couple of different games he couldn't playbefore. Those are "Total Carnage", "Terminator 2" and "Smash TV". They got pretty high remarks, so you mightwant to check them out and comment on what your opinion is. I certainly like those games a lot as well. What do you think?

Total Carnage came out just at the time of the Gulf War, for all you younguns out there. Play the game and see how many middle east type references you can see in it. Almost EVERYTHING (TV, movies, comics, etc) had some kind of refernece about the war at that point... considering how little impact this war had on the world it's pretty funny. Just imagine you're fighting Saddamm and his alien army and the game gets pretty funny after a while.

maybe you could spell out what emu you are playing the game on, and thus reviewing with? (i caught the skysoldier review and figured it was for mame). but speaking of shooters... i would love to see a review of truxton2.... that is one B.S. game.... impossible with max firepower, and just worse if you lose your strong guns. that is one poor game that would require mucho dinero to complete. but i would recommendf it! just use the action replay cheats in raine and enjoy the awesome graphics. crap "game" but definitely cool... for the first board. cheats are needed later on though, and its not so much fun when you cant die. but using save states and alli doubt any man could beat this game with its default difficulty as in raine. the dip switch settings in raine are not understandable though.. maybe the game is bewtter with an easy difficulty setting. anyway, i would like to hear your opinion, as i have to say its the most un fair game i have ever played... even more than aerofighters 2 for neo geo. peace!

As a side note, if you're having speed issues, you should try playing the game on MAME32A, on most of the 34010 and Namco System2 games, it's a huge improvement over the standard MAME32 compilation...

Huh? The 34010 games, like Smash TV, don't use any assembly, so there would be no difference at all.

Well, with the new MAME for DOS (beta 9.1), the only game I have problems with is Total Carnage - it just bogs down when a lot of stuff is on the screen at once. The other games play at 100% now. :)

Still, I'll give MAME32A a try and see how it compares. Thanks for the tip!
