Capcom ROMs CD being shipped! - December 08,1999 by JoseQ
If you're the proud owner of a HanaHo Hot Rod, your Capcom ROMs CD should be on the way to you as you read this. It has come out of the oven, and it's currently being shipped to all owners and buyers. There'sone mistake however, instead of including the game "U.N. Squadron", "Carrier Air Wing" is included. This was an error on documentation and cover art, but the CD itselfwill list 'Air Wing' and that's the game the User Interfacewill let you know. Also as a reminder, HanaHo is going on the 16th for Christmas Vacations, so if you want Santa tocarry one of those gorgeous sticks or cabinets and put it under your tree, you better place your order soon.

HanaHo just sent me the CD for the 'Hot Rod SE' that I won in the contest back in September. It's really cool and I particularly like the new Capcom-only MAME32 front end that runs it. Once again, thanks so much for the wonderful monstrosity of a controller that decorates my desk top!

I just wanted to post this item about reliving a classic moment...

There's a small arcade near my new job. It has the largest local collection of good, working pinball machines I've found in the area, including my all-time favorite, The Twilight Zone. But over in a corner is a cabinet with the ORIGINAL Galaga. I went over and played it today for old time's sake.

I really love retrogaming, and I'm excited by how much projects like MAME have helped to preserve the feeling of the classics. But, good as MAME and the rest of the emulators are, there is just no way to emulate the whole experience of playing a classic arcade game. Standing (and in my case, stooping slightly) in front of an old machine, with a loose joystick and a button that works just barely well enough for you to play. The sound turned up just enough for you to hear it over the din of the rest of the arcade. The excitement of pulling off that really close shot that nearly destroyed you. The pain of kicking the coin door with your knee in frustration when you lose a life. The feeling of pride when you break the high score while several other people are watching you...

With 3 lives per game, on what appeared to be medium difficulty, I broke the high score and set a new personal record: 170,770 points, 70.6% hit ratio, level 23.

Sorry , but a GEforce 256 for 230 dollars sounds better than that joystick. But it is a an awesome joystick i have to admit. But 200 dollars is a little extreme....

P.s. Dont even reply with an argument why I chose not to buy the cheaper crap 160 dollar 3 button... To many Neo Geo fighting games on the net so their.

I went out to the Hanaho site and read that the CD will include an optimized version of Mame32.

I'm positive that I've read before that the CD was supposed to have a special version of Arcade@Home on it. It makes me wonder why the change to Mame32. I could assume many things, one being that the recent negative hype with Arcade@Home has caused Hanaho to change their minds about using the product. I won't assume that though and would like to know exactly why the change.

Anyone have any insight into this??

Negative pressure from Nicola several months ago caused Hanaho to use MAME32 instead of Arcade@Home. It was also better for me because I wasn't locked into a contract. It actually served everyone better. Nicola didn't have to deal with the fact that Arcade@Home would be used with the HotRod, HanaHo had to do it to release MAME with the HotRod, and I wasn't locked into a contract.

Also, no one is missing anything. The special version of Arcade@Home for the HotRod was just a reduced feature version. No additional features were going to be added, only removed (for simplicity).

ArcadeAtHome would be a front-end, but
they ended up doing their own front-end.
