Merry Rumor Mill - December 23,1999 by JoseQ
I can't take it anymore. It's been too long without aRumor Mill. However, even though it may seem there's notmuch going on, that perspective will be changing in thedays to come. We're two days away from a Holiday thatsurrounds a big part of the world, this is not only a holiday, but also one of the biggest and most awaiteddays of the year. It is the season of giving, and theseason of joy, thus we may find ourselves receiving a goodbunch of presents from authors around the world.
First off the top of my list is a new version ofRetrocade. While many of you may be getting new, fast PCsyou must remember there are other people around with not-so-fast PCs. Besides not only is it fast, but it has anawesome User Interface. I know my cab will see some Retrocade action when it gets here next week. I even gotSanta Claus to report on this one, and it seems that it'sin his sack for delivery around Christmas.
You will be surprised to learn that the webmaster ofone of the biggest Retrogaming sites is taking on anotherproject with the opening of a new type of site. I've seenthe previews, and what can I say, it's simply awesome. Thisdoesn't mean that his current efforts will steer off in a new direction, but merely that he will use some of his timeto post news on this different subject: Retrogaming of the Future. Keep your eyes peeled for this one.
There have been many fronts with calmed waters in themost recent weeks or even longer than that in some cases. Those would be Snes9x, Sega 32X emus and The Impact. Whilesome rumors had been raised regarding some of those, itseems that they've grown to be even more passive. However,I wouldn't be surprised if one of them (or all of them)would pop out all of the sudden with a new release. Ok, Iwould be surprised if all of them were released suddenly, but at least one or two may make it this year. Don't holdyour breath for them though.
As far as Raine goes, while being worked on, I havealso learned that there is a slim chance of getting anotherrelease this year. If anything, it might show up for NewYears celebration. Don't expect any new releases from thisawesome emulator for Christmas though. As far as Rainegoing into my cab, there's no question about it. I have toplay 100% of those shooters in my cab to truly test it.
And of course, the Mill would have to touch base withMAME to see where it stood in terms of a release. WhileGradius III may now be a thing of the emulated past, beingemulated in Sparcade with great speed, there will be a fewother games supported come the new release. I would expectthis one to come over the Christmas weekend or the next one. With the holiday season going strong, developers have spenta lot of time with their familias, loved ones and in stores,so development has not progressed as well as we would hope.It is always exciting to see new releases every now and then.
And if you haven't realized, we are just days away fromthe re-opening of Longevity's The Digital Arcade. Work hasbeen hard, but it will pay off shortly, you will see.
Well, this was a weird Rumor Mill but I just feltcompelled to post something as it had been a missing featurefor too long. Once the holiday season is over and developersget back to their emulated desks, there will be a lot moreexciting news to distribute, and to rumorize. Hopefullythey will let me disclose more goodies as well. The nexttime I write this, I will already own a kick-ass arcade cabinet from HanaHo. I should be a totally different person. Have a Merry Christmas!

What I find so amusing, is that Retrogaming (read: Nicola/Mame) seems to have started a whole new industry! Just look at the piccy of Hanaho, in the background is another ArcadePC cabinet. These Hanaho guys originally only made cabinets for the Capcom and the likes! Same goes for Happ Controls. (and Pacman.com :-)

From:
While it may be a while before Collective Entertainment Networks is up and running fully they are still some rumors worth sharing that JoseQ missed this week.

First up is Raine, while the time table is on track they have been some games that were mentioned in the topic on #raine where the developers hang out as coming soon. Those games are: Aquajack, Chase HQ 2: SCI, Continental Circus, Night Striker, WGP and Top Speed. If everything goes well this should be in the release JoseQ mentioned.

And to further add to the connection between the Sega System 32 emulator and the Model 1 system there are reports that Sega's ST-V arcade board and the Saturn also share the same CPU. Looks like the development of the Sys32 emulator could lead to a lot of other interesting projects.

Lastly, I have heard word that those looking to support emulation may have a new "characity" to give to in the new year. Hopefully there will be more details on this one soon.

That's all for now. See you on Janurary 20.

No no no. The sega ST-V and saturn use 2 hitachi SH-2's and the sega system32 uses the nec v60. Completly different hardware.

I've been fortunate enough to see a little bit of the stuff they're doing with the site, and simply what I can say is: if you like the Flash intro that you get when you first connect there now (which is really impressive!), that's nothing .... you will see soon!

I think I'll be able to get my low-tech front end (PLAY) to work OK with all this... I can't wait!
