Impact Released! - January 02,2000 by JoseQ
Update: I've uploaded Street Fighter EX Plus and Toshiden 2 to the ROMs Page. Enjoy!
You have read about it, rumors of it being released byChristmas were dismissed, but all of the sudden, it is nowhere! Impact, the Capcom ZN-1 and Capcom ZN-2Arcade boards emulator. This first release is available fordownload from the Emulator Download Page. As far as the ROMsare concerned, they should be appearing around the ROM pagessoon enough. Just give me some time and I shall deliver asusual. Go grab the emulator in the meantime.
This release supports 5 games, and they are as follows(copied from the readme.txt file):

  • Street Fighter EX (Asia)/Street Fighter EX (Japan)
  • Street Fighter EX+ (USA)/Street Fighter EX+ (Japan)
  • Battle Arena Toshinden 2 (Japan)
  • Psychic Force (Japan)
  • Rival schools (Asia)/Justice Gakuen (Japan)

You will also need boardrom.bin (probably the board BIOS) to runany of the games. The emulator features ZIP file support (except for theboardrom.bin file) and you can also get help from the FAQ on their pageand their Message Board. Enjoy!

Set up the directory structure mentioned in readme and don't forget if the difference between zip-rom and unzipped one. (I have put zipped one inside directory of the same name, stupid) At the same time don't forget to download boardrom.bin

for my system. I'm using a 32 meg Diamond Viper 770 ultra on a Pentium II 400 with
128 megs of ram. I have the latest Diamond drivers. I recently swiched from a
Voodoo2 and I haven't really messed with the settings of my card yet.

Those people with Voodoo 3's should use the high res version of Metabyte's Wickedgl mididriver with impact. It's much much faster at high resolutions.

    Celeron 450a, 128 megs of ram, V3 3000, Sneskey9x for sidewinder support
44100 sound, default opengl, type 2 texture caching,
    color dithering, bilinear filtering

    Street Fighter EX

    1280x1024
    25 fps default opengl
    45-50 fps wickedgl highres

    1152x864
    25-30 fps default V3 opengl
    45-50 fps wickedgl highres

    1024x768
    25-30 fps default
    45-50 fps wickedgl lowres
    43-48 fps wickedgl highres

    800x600
    25-30 fps default
    42-48 fps wickedgl highres
    48-53 fps wickedgl lowres

    640x480
    25-30 fps default opengl
    42-48 fps wickedgl highres
    48-53 fps wickedgl lowres

If you aren't using the Wickedgl minidriver, you are really taking a performance hit.

When it says it doesn't recognize the sidewinder, turn off the light by hitting the "mode" button, hit ctrl-e, it will tell you it didn't find it again, hit the "mode" button and hit ctrl-e again. It will then not say anything and it is active.

I have WickedGL and it is invaluable for Quake3..but how on earth did you get it to work/conincide with an "unsupported" program such as Impact? Is it possible to get it to work with other glide games as well ?

All you have to do is find the minigl driver for Q3. I'm not sure what the name of the minidriver is (try 3dfxgl.dll). Then copy and paste that file to the directory of whateever program you want to try with the minigl, and rename 3dfxgl.dll to opengl32.dll

You can get the Wickedgl at http://www.wicked3d.com

Be sure to click the "Adjust Desktop Settings" box since the minigl likes to run fullscreen only.
