New NES Emulator: NESten - January 04,2000 by JoseQ
Well it's time for JNes to make some space in the Windows world for NES Emulationsince a new emulator just bursted onto the scene. The nameof the new emu is NESten and has "Almost the real thing" astheir slogan. You can download their first beta releasefrom the Emulator Download Page right now. It features a good compatibility list, save states, movie states, a recompiling core and more! Feel free to downloadit and comment here. I've been looking for a good NES emulator for Windows and this sounds like it could be it. What do you think?

I tried NESten and did not like it because it doesn't support actual screen sizes but rather it goes by double, triple, etc.. size of the original window size when the program first starts.

I also tried a few roms on it and even though the opening credits and the demo worked, I could not seem to play the games. I setup my keyboard keys but they did not seem to work.

I also did not like the idea of having the extra 2 windows open on start-up HOWEVER because this is the first release, I do give credit to the developer for taking the inituative to make another windows based NES emulator and will be happy to try out future versions of the software.

For now I will stick with JNES, the BEST NES emulator to work perfectly on my Cyrix 166 system with Matrix Mystique 2Mb video card and Soundblaster Pro.

The Jnes NES 8-bit emulator is still superior to NESten.
NESten has great potential, since this first beta runs impressively, however very slowly even when using a P-II 350Mhz.
Jnes runs faster, supports more mappers, offers full screen, etc.
By all means, try out NESten.
But for now, Jnes is my Windows NES emulator of choice. For the best/fastest NES emu: use DOS version of Nesticle.

jnes is great but doesnt support some mappers that biones does. castlevania3 for one. 3d worldrunner is another one. biones has great sound and is fast. i like jnes for the games it runs though. runs perfect on a p200. *my NES thought for the day*

I can't belive it, it ran castlevania 3!
I am very impressed! The only thing is I cannot run
double screen mode without a HUGE slowdown!(and I have a k6-350)
