    >I use Neo Geo ROMs on MAME32 & they run fine as long as you have the Neo Geo BIOS zip. Do NOT unzip ROMs.. just keep them all in the ROMs folder. If they don't work, then your ROMs are fake or missing files.

    From: 66.46.11.130
I've been following Mame for a couple of years now, and have always used the Win version, because it's easiest. I have a p350 w/ 48megs o' ram, and the windows mame is very slow. Switching to dos mode, though, The difference is night and day. I mean, it's super fast! Get out of windows, people, and use the Dos mame! Trust me, you won't believe the difference!

I think the mame dev. are doing great, better than anyone else out there. Keep it up!

Why is M.A.M.E. so slow? My computer emulates Neo-Geo just fine, but MAME is much slower (and the games are way older). I don't understand.

Not everyone has the computing power to be able to play most of the new games. It's a free program and should be available to the community, not just people with P-II/III computers.

well, firstly, cheers to all of the mame team for
continuing to work on the mame project and have it
support more and more games, more effiecintly!

as for the win/dos thing, i`ve only used it in
windows, using the dos build+frontend and the mame 32
builds..i agree, its REALLY frustrating that the
mame 32 build is WAY out of date..

but, then, no one is paying anything for mame, and the
only peolple actually SUPPORTING the mame team are
those peeps kind enough to make dumps of their pcbs,
the beta testers, the licence bloke and those of us
    clicking on their sponsers :)

so, i cant condemn them in any way, but if any of them
are reading, honto ni domo arigato gozaimash!ta! ganbatte
    kudasai!

also, cheers for hose q`s continuing sterling work on this

site, and for his contribution and time to the emulation "scene"
and love the look of your new set up!

well, thats all, if anyones interested in joining my

rom project, please email me at:

    kotatsuneko@hotmail.com

we have just over 6000 roms preserved so far
and are looking for contributors to share roms/
    emulation/arcade info-end of plug-

    later

I *was* a fan of Mame32 but after trying DOS binarys using frontends like Arcade@Home, I've found the DOS versions to run much better and faster than their Windows counterparts.
And also, the Mame32 versions can't play back music in games like BAD DUDES, etc.
If you want to use Mame32, more power to you. But please don't slam the other ones. Take care, and happy maming!

Now I like the windows version as much as anyone (as my main os is win 2k) but hey it's not even like the same people make the dos & win version, the dos version is made, then other people port it to windows.

I think they'd be more likely to change to linux as a main os than windows anyway. (and the only version of that I have anywhere is on my amiga box!!!) Why. Cause windows sucks ass!! (quick sumamry of long argument ;-)

So basically it'll happen when it happens and if you don't like that then see if a un-offical port is out, or even just port it yourself.

NO way would the windows version be as fast as the dos's. My computer is fast and it could handle the windows version easily, but I still like dos.

They should most definately continue making a DOS version!! I am one of those people who can't run the Windows version, and the DOS version works great.
There are no problems running it in Windows, so what's the big deal?

Now that's selfish. Not EVERYONE can run the Windows version; I certainly can't. The DOS version rocks. And it runs just fine in Windows!
