The Rumor Mill - January 13,2000 by JoseQ
Well, I can't wait any longer without posting a Rumor Mill, it's been too long since I last wrote this sessionand I think you guys deserve to know some more about what'sgoing on. However, it seems the scene is changing a littlebit towards secrecy since I have so many NDAs that willmake this Rumor Mill kind of boring. However, some of thestuff posted here will be sure to make you happy, as it didwith me when I learned about it, like some of the rumorsI've heard about Raine... but first, Retrocade!
The hidden devices surrounding the Retrocade camp havecaptured some very interesting information regarding thismuch talked about emulator. Even though it hasn't seen thepublic light in quite some time, development still continuesto move strong albeit slower than when it first came out.The powers that be are feeling very close to a public betarelease, but there is a short number of games who won't justwork correctly and some sound stuff that must be nailed downbefore it comes out. Shall we say January? I certainly hopeso.
If you read the previous article, then you know that ifeverything goes through with HiVE it might finally see theworld of commercial emus. I've been under NDAs on this one,but I can at least say that Larry is developing some niftystuff. Once everything goes through, and it looks like itwill, HiVE will be shown to the public with a good numberof improvements including 8 new games as mentioned by Larryin his interview.
But moving to another big name emulator, Raine. I'veheard even nicer things on the Raine camps lately. Itseems that we might just get lucky and feel the rain pourdown fairly soon. I've been told that a new alpha is just'days' away. However as you know with the development world, plans can change all of the sudden. However, I feel prettyconfident that this new release will reach us gamers verysoon. Hopefully we will be able to get our hands on it bythis weekend.
Well I'll keep it short for now, as since the HolidaysI've been so busy it hurts. Going to bed before 2a.m. seemsto be some kind of fantasy I've been dreaming about duringthis new year. I'll try to get a fuller bag for you nextweek! Thanks for reading!

Since everybody´s begging for ROMs I want to enter the party with another request : where can I find a good set for Tatsujin 2/Thruxton 2 ? The set I have (d/l'ed from emuviews ?) has size error in some roms.
I know this is not a 'recent' ROM, so perhaps nobody is looking for it or doesn´t care, but isn´t emulation about past games ? Well let me be nostalgic and search for that (old) game instead of the new stuff everybody looks for (e.g. Euro Champ 92)...

It just claimed to be onscreen in order to pimp for Nintendo. The hardware for it (and Crusin' USA) is a modified Mortal Kombat 2 board (standard 34010 CPU and everything).

No no no no no no NO! Killer Instinct did not run on a Modified Mortal Kombat 2 board. While the TMS34010 CPU and YM-2151 were used on Any Bally/Williams game starting with NARC, and MK2 and so forth began using the Digital Compression System Sound Chip (DCS), KI's Main Processor was an R4600 (64-bit RISC). The Music and Sound Effects came through the DCS Sound System and yes the Hard Drive was used for movies and and also for Character Data. The Music and Sound came from the ROMS thru the DCS. Some Character movement came thru the ROMS and HD. Look to about two years before KI "CAN" be emulated. It's hardware is a bit complex at the moment. KI was Nintendo/RAREWARE's baby. They were just to lazy to put it out into the arcade theirselves. Case in point with KI2, Cruisin' USA and Cruisin' World. So they gotta hold of Midway to do the distribution. But WMS got the commissions for the DCS hardware which goes to prove that Nintendo can't have it all, being the bullies that they have been.

Do you reckon that Killer Instinct will be emulated soon seing though the newer games are now coming through. KI was a wicked game and wiped the floor with most beat em ups.....

Keep up the good work EMU people you make life that little bit easier !!!

I think Killer Instinct will take quite a while.

For one they ran on a 130MB Hard Drive... And I believe they were souped up Nintendo 64 hardware in there... So it might be a long while...
I'm sure it'll eventually get done... but don't expect those ROMs to be available here =P

I am not beeging for the roms here but just wondering if there is any info on when this rom might see the light of day. It sounded like it was getting close then one of the Romlist folks received a new baby so we can imagine how busy they are. Would be really nice to get this game before the next release came out and rumor heard elsewhere has Dead Connection being a future Romlist release, hopefully we won't have to wait too long after the next release for that one.

no doubt other folks such as the developers of raine have a copy of that romset. the reason they wont give it out is so romlist will get the attention it "deserves" when it finally decides to release it. just like with gridseeker. btw, i haven't seen one person thank romlist for their release of gridseeker, and thats probably becasue of the way they take forever and frown opun others "releasing" their dumps. so no one will betray romlist, and romlist will take their sweet time, just to let you know who's boss. mmmkay? they rock joo, remember? :)
