Start your downloads! The first batch of DX Files for EmuDX has been made available. You can start your downloads earlyand avoid the rush by visiting the Download Section at the EmuDX Home Page. A Release date has also been set for Saturday, January 29th at 8pm GMT, which is tentative, butthat's what they're shooting for. Other games have been announced that will be supported in the future, they are: "Gyruss", "LadyBug", "Scramble" and "Mr. Do!". What's your take on this emulator?

Subject: Is it just me?
From:
The main question I have in looking at what EmuDX is trying to do is "Why?" The thing that made those games classics was gameplay, not graphics. By putting rendered objects on a fancy background it can actually detract from the gameplay. And replacing the classic game sound effects with a running loop of "modern" sound just makes the game sound "wrong". Don't get me wrong - when I first saw the sample screens of PacDX I thought it really looked good. But when I played it I just thought the game felt more like one of the hundreds of "clones" that came and went over the years. Even though the game movements & controls are true due to the emulation, the changing of the sound and graphics just makes the whole game feel "strange". I think the DX project sparks an initial curiosity when looking at the screenshots, but the final feeling is that it is just a novelty after you play it a while.
