Fear no more, MAME32 will do vsync! - January 19,2000 by JoseQ
Some of the best news I've heard from the MAME32 Q&A Page in the last few months aside from the releases werejust posted yesterday. It seems that Chris Kirmse has addedpreliminary support for 'Triple Buffering/vsync' finallytaking away the tearing effect appearing in scrollerslike Shinobi and many other games. I've been going to DOSto the regular MAME to play some of these games since thatcertainly doesn't look good while playing. Other games thatwill benefit from this are countless shooters with scrolling backgrounds (sideways or vertical) which are alsoanother huge part of my favorite games. There was no mention however on when this would be made available, buthopefully it'll be soon since the first consolidated build is already going through the test cases. I'm not sure if vsync was included in that build though. Nevertheless, these good news await for us in the near future! Kudos to the MAME32 team for this!

I sure wish that there was some way of including resolutions below 512x384 into DirectX. That'll remove the last scars of inferiority that the Windows-version suffers to the DOS. I wonder how the 57 Hz games will run in Windows now?

This is great news indeed! I have been using the dos version untill now and constantly been having to take dos-compatability into account when upgrading hardware. But now my sorrows will surely be over.

TIP: Did you know that if you have a Matrox G200 (or G400 I think) you can make your own screen-resolutions? This works great in combination with MAME32, as it will let you select from all available resolutions for it's screen output.

I'd like Mame32 to be able to detect Roms better. An example of an Emulator that does this well is NeoRage, as is detects files within zipped roms regardless of the zip filename.

I suspect NeoRage can do that because it only looks for about 128ish games.. Neo Geo's.

Mame 32, however, has to be responsible for 1950ish games.

I can't imagine anyone would want to sit through that audit.
