From:
JoseQ:

Its ok, no big deal. Thanks for the explanation, that clears things up.

I'll paraphrase my main gripe about EmuDX from that post:

Its Written in DOS. That *should* be enough said, but just in case, this is the primary reason why all these people (including myself) are having LOADS of problems with EmuDX not running with sound/joystick/visuals. It should have been obvious to the developers to do this thing in Win32, yet they chose DOS. Ugh! DOS IS DEAD. And the argument that DOS supports the widest number of systems out there doesn't hold water any more - maybe it did a few years ago when there will still people out there with 386 machines that couldn't at least run Win95, but not any more. In truth, it causes more problems with the widest computer base out there, those people with Wintel machines. The very LOWEST common denominator computer out there more than meets the requirements for Win95, not to mention 98/NT/2K.

And if you're really aching to write an app for a powerful, command-line driven OS, write for Linux/UNIX.

Ok, enough.

good emulator - excellent concept which has been nicely realised. The only problem I've experienced with it is that it doesn't recognise my Sidewinder (anyone else find this?) Here's hoping for lots more games which get the DX treatment!

I couldn't get pacman to work until I made a zip file that does not have built in directories -- like the one provided on this website. Try making your own zip file if you can't change the directory structure.

Actually I didn't erase them. I'm not sure what happened. I think maybe the script goes into error if two people post at nearly the same time. Not to mention the server has been under some serious strain since EmuDX was released since those DX files are huge...

I apologize, I only remove postings if they're offensive (ie. contain some serious nasty language and no point). Bad words I usually just change to !@(!... As you can see the number of messages listed on the main page does not match the number of messages inside. =(

Hmm... I posted a rather negative review of EmuDX here earlier this eve... only to find out it was DELETED. Interesting. So you're only allowed to post messages on the board if they are positive? What kind of discussion board is THAT? More like a dictatorship to me. That's too bad. I'll post my negative reviews of it on other boards I suppose, I won't be using this one again.

Then again, this post will probably be deleted.

Oh no, the Emuviews message boards won't be graced by the illustrious
Cointosser presence again. Now 80% of the readership will be hanging
out in other messageboards; waiting for his first-rate negative reviews--

And probably you are right.
In a half year on Windows 2000 NO dos based emulator run any more, and programming is easier with DirectX and Win98 than for stone old operating systems. And thats why most of the owners of modern equipment couln't get sound - the pci based Soundblasters are constructed for running in modern environements and not on computers that are older than the emulated games. If you could get them installed in the emu as Ensoniq Sound System, it will work for you, but why the heck? Mame runs all games fine on Win98, so thats it.

Thanks for helping out with exactly what we need to do to get things going Galaga 7.
It's really appreciated.

Mike, I've got to say that you and your team have done one helluva job breathing new life into these old classics. If only the major companies could do such a great job. Improve the sound and graphics but keep the addictive gameplay. Excellent idea!
Thanks!

I simply unzipped my Mame Roms and placed them in the appropriate directories inside the Roms directory. Yes, I'm running them unzipped. For example I unzipped my Mame dkong.zip into emudx1/roms/dkongjp.

Every game supported runs great. Donkey Kong is my favorite, always was and it's even better DXed, but I must say the sounds and graphics in Frogger are top notch!

Hat's off to the EmuDX team!

If you get it to that stage and all the games run, you can safely zip each directory and it will work fine. (ie zip dkongjp folder into a new zipfile in the roms directory called dkonjp.zip)

I think everyone who worked on EmuDX did an awesome job. Mind you all I'm basing this on is from the various screenshots I've seen. I think I speak for everyone else having problems getting the games to load when I say that it gets pretty fustrating when you want to experience all the developers hard work but can't.

You must have both the Music.dx and the game.dx for the game you want to

Pac-man and Ms. Pac-Man work great.

The other three don't work for me. The games start, but the background overflows my computer screen (and I'm not allowed to make any video adjustments to compensate). Even though the Galaxian, Frogger, and Donkey Kong has background animation, my character doesn't move.

Anybody else with this problem? (and I do realize the program does state it has a few problems)

Great job EmuDX team. I've tried all five supported games and they rock! Donkey Kong is awesome!!

My only complaint is I haven't been able to try out the sound option just yet. But that's only because I have a system conflict with my sound card and printer that requires me to disable my printer to get sound in DOS. From what I've seen you can bet I'll be doing that soon to get the full effects of EmuDX.

Every game I try to load, tells me that it can't read certain files.

Any suggestions?

You must have both the Music.dx and the game.dx for the game you want to play. unzip them and put them it the DXfiles folder. then you must have the orig. roms in the roms dir zipped. these are the same roms the MAME uses.
