More Drivers for MESS! - February 15,2000 by JoseQ
If you have ever seen something computer-like that isn't an arcade, you're bound to eventually see it againon MESS. Adding yet a new driver to their ever-growing collection, Paul Daniels has added a Philips P2000T driver, and hasan Acorn atom driver in progress. Not that I had everseen any of those machines, but the list of drivers includedin MESS is incredibly amazing and it just keeps gettingbetter. Check out their W.I.P. page for a screenshot ofeach of these two new drivers.

I have seen both machines in the flesh!

The Atom was the machine before the famous BBC computer, named after a computer tutorial programma on BBC television, which incidentally also sprouted the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, which lost from the Acorn computer for being used as the official computer used in the series. Unlike the 'beeb', it had very basic Basic :)

The Philips P2000T was also known as the Teletext computer. Teletext is a well known add-on to your European TV, for displaying Closed Captions, but also weather, traffic info, news, and program info ('CeeFax' in Britian, Teletext or Teletekst in most European countries. Try http://teletekst.nos.nl/cgi-bin/tt/nos/page/m/404-1 to see a dutch Teletext page.)
It had a 40x25 characters screen with cruded (2x3 pixels per characterblock) graphics. Imagine how the games looked on the P2000T! The P came with a built-in micro cassette player and a seperate RAM and Basic cartridge. It used to be very common on dutch schools in the 80's.
