The Site for Views on Emulators

Emulator Profiles... - February 21,2000 by JoseQ
Continuing with the tradition to improve on the site, I made a modification to the Emulator Download Page. Although not completed, you can now see a little more information on each of the emulators, as wellas the added feature of being able to rate it on 6 different categories. To get to this "Emulator Profile" you can either click on the i found to the left of the emulator name, or when clicking on the download link, you will be taken there while the download automatically starts. Going back to the ratings, you can rate each release for each emulator in the following six categories:

  • Video: In this area you can say how well this emulator works with your video card, as well as having video features that you may like or dislike such as scanlines, full screen modes, stretching, 'Eagle' graphics modes, etc.
  • Audio: Sound emulation is very important to most people, you can rate each emulator on how well it workswith your sound card, and how accurate the audio emulation is.
  • Input: Input is often the cause for some people not to use an emulator because sometimes it's not very flexible, or just incompatible. You may rate the emulator from 1 to 10 on how well it works with your input, and how flexible it is.
  • Usability: Is this emulator easy to configure? Easy to start-up and get running? Would you only use it with a front-end to make it understandable?
  • Replay Value: One of the most important factors people look at is how much current users would go back to a certain emulator. Would you use it again? Would you just wait a long time? Rate there accordingly.
  • Performance: Perhaps what tells the difference between the big boys and the little kids is howwell a certain emulator performs on your system. Rate 10 for best performance.

Future additions to this profile page will be a list of the authors for each particular emulator, along with their e-mail addresses (when available). Also, the obvious link to their Home Page and a list of previous releases. In the case of consoles, links to other emulators of the same platform will also be made available. Now, what do you think of all this? Please comment.

Count me in as one of the shy 10K. I've been visiting this site on a daily basis for almost a year now. JoseQ, for my money, your site is THE best emulation site on the net. I tell anyone new to emulation to start here. So, I just want to say thanks for all the time and effort you put into the site. Keep up the great work.
