MAME32 is out! - February 22,2000 by JoseQ
Much awaited Windows version of the latest MAME is out. MAME32 has been updated to version 0.36b16 and is now available for download from the Emulators Page. This new release includes some big changes to thesound cores, thus why it was delayed a few times. It also include support for the 9 new games supported as of the last DOS version, which you can get from the ROMs or ROMs Lite Page. Other changes include the deletion of 8 bit sound (it will now always have 16bit sampling), and SEAL is no longer an option. If you're like me and was waiting for this, get your downloads going!

I read on another message group that the high score saving is INDEED broken in MAME. Supposedly it will be fixed in an upcoming release.

By the way, is this guy down there brain dead? Too many "Buds"? WHASSSSSSUUUUP???

Is is just me or has the high score saving stopped working in Mame32? I have tried creating a "NVRAM" directory but still have no luck. It has always worked fine until the recent change from using "HI" directory. Can anyone give me a hint??? Thanks! BTW, I tested with the "Universal" version of "Mr. Do" which used to work.

Thanks for the new version!
APB now works! Simpsons with sound!
Very much improved!
Thanks for the memories!

P.S. to everyone who writes to complain-
Give it a rest! What do your want for free? The roms are the real deal, you can't get any better! Maybe you should pick up a book on programming, or get a roll of quarters and head to the arcade!

Mame32 updated! Great!

I can't really remember the specifik specs on the DC but a DC equals (more or less) a Pc P2 200Mhz 24 mb ram and a really REALLY strong 3D-board (needs cooling). So tecnically Dc-emulation(demoes - not GD-rom) shoudnt be a problem in the future, with all those giant voodoo4,5,6... n other karts coming our way. Can't be that long until the GD-rom reaches the PC-platform.

MameDC sounds promissing! If the author release it on the net we shoud all be able to download i to the DC. Maybe I shoud get a Zip-drive for my DC.

Sorry for my english which stinks! 8-P

I think what that guy meant was a MAME that runs on the Dreamcast hardware. I guess that he also assumes that a Dreamcast port would run faster than the average PC since Dreamcast has so much power. I'm not sure it's all main CPU power though...

Well, I haven't read the manuals much, but I think
it's fairly safe to assume that the 200MHz Hitachi
SuperH CPU in the Dreamcast is, cycle for cycle,
more powerful than any x86 CPU, since they have
to retain an old register set and instruction set
(20+ years old now I think, not counting the shift
from 16-bit to 32-bit registers). Hell, the way I
hear it, the Intel procs themselves are now actually
RISC chips with a hardware x86 translation engine
attached. Anyway, my point is that the Dreamcast
CPU should be more than enough to handle a lot of
MAME games, assuming that the DC's graphics
hardware can be properly taken advantage of. I
think it's more likely that memory limitations
(the DC has "only" 16MB of general-purpose RAM)
would cause more games to be unplayable than CPU
limitations would (Neo-Geo, anyone?).

Hurrah another Mame32 update!

Has anyone else experienced problems running the new version of Mame32 with the 'Auto-pause' option on? Unless I turn this off no games will run and Mame32 just crashes out.

Since MAME stands for Multi Arcade Machine Emulator, a Dreamcast MAME would sort of contradict itself by definition, wouldn't it? :P

Besides, if you want to play Dreamcast games, the best and most reliable way to play them that there will be for a long time is to get a Dreamcast. So there.

Why are so many people so obsessed about dreamcast emulation. If you want the DC games that much, go out and buy one, they are not that expensive.

Mame is superb and allows us all to replay the games we all enjoyed years ago and thats why its so great. It is not intended to rip the heart out of the gaming industry today by emulating games which are practically new.

If emulators start playing everything then nobody will buy games, developers will not make any money and stop generating new products.

I thought Dreamcast can only read a special kind of cd's similar to DVD's. If this is the case mame for dreamcast may be far off. Although the playstation2 can read normal cds...

I agree in the most part about the changes in Mame - I think concentration should now be made on getting games to work without bugs - 1900 + games is a lot and mame started as a small utility to play old games - forget emulating dreamcast etc for now - lets see mame become the most stable emulator out there to play your favourite pre 1994 games.

Signed a MAME fan

P.S - Mame 32 might be slightly slower but I can accept that being as Windows is not a stable platform anyway - get a faster processor and graphic card for better results

At last, but I don't like that the 8 bit sampling has gone.
The Trouble is mame32 is just too slow, I really do think that this
should now support raine and neorage by combining the emus.
It would be so much easier, also when are we going to see Dreamcast Mame?

Mame 32 is slow for people with slow computers.

And fast for people with fast computers.

Make sense?
