NEWS w/o ICONS

The Rumor Mill - March 16,2000 by JoseQ
In trying to find some news bits for a new edition of the Rumor Mill I stumbled upon some very exciting rumors concerning a very old console which hasn't seen the public light of emulation just yet. This is kind of odd given the fact that it wasn't an unknown console like some that are readily emulated by MESS, or some of the obscure Sega consoles. Since I had already received some other reports with good info for the next Rumor Mill, I decided that this was enough to make for a pretty good edition. So let's get right on to them.
First, a little mention from a site that has been around for quite a while, and was very popular around the early times EmuViews existed. The guys behind it were very adamant about making sure releases were handled smoothly and liked surprising us with new and exciting ROM dumps. For those who haven't figured it by now, I'm talking about Romlist. And why am I mentioning this? The site may be undergoing some changes shortly which will put it into active gear once again. I'm not certain if we can expectROM dumps at the rate that they once had it, but I've learned of some efforts to at least put the site back into motion again. Stay tuned to their site for news.
On a probably more exciting note, I have just learned about this new emulator in the works, that will bring home for the first time, Intellivision emulation for free. This work in progress emu will be coded for DirectX, so those of us who like the compatibility and flexibility of Windows emulators will definitely like this. It currently has some gfx and sprites working, and sound is on the way. There's no outlook for the first release, but hopefully it'll happen soon enough. ROM images will be available here aswell, as I have already been contacted with good sources for them, and who knows, maybe EmuViews gets to host the official Emu page as well.
Another rumor circulating the bag involves one of the best resources for ROMs out there (if not the best) right now, finally getting a stable host that won't cancel his account after a week. You might think that me and my Web-Hosting business had something to do with this, and you might even be correct. But nevertheless, the point is that there will be a more stable stream of ROMs from that site in the very near future. Well you might have already read about it at the site if you've visited it today.
On more emulator rumors, our only currently alive Multi Arcade Emulator, MAME, details about their future 0.36 releases are starting to come out. It seems that the next public version will finally be the 0.36 final we've all been waiting for. Those of you wondering about all the ROMs that are broken here, they will be fixed then as I usually do when final versions come out. I wouldn't wait longer than a week for MAME 0.36 to be final. I have heard nothing about MAME 0.37 beta 1 though, but it should follow soon after that.
A couple of last quick bits found in the bag seem to indicate that while Retrocade was getting a good push near the end of last year, it has moved pretty much into the back burner, and might only see an 'as-is' release if any, sometime soon. Work on it has been very slow. HiVE continues to be developed but moving more towards a commercial product you might actually see very soon. Impact emu, is most likely dead, at least as we know it today, and last but not least EmuDX has also slowed down majorly over the last few weeks. Expect more news on some of these on the next edition of the Rumor Mill! Thanks for reading!

I was told by some site ops www.impactemu.com was closed due to another beta tester screwing them over. Its apparent the Impact team/PSemu team are fed up with people but they dont need to take it out on the whole emu scene. Anyways thats all i know. So if they ever read this i know you guys were screwed over but get over it and give good people a chance to beta test if not test it yourselves and none of this would ever happen.

You mention that Impact is dead but iVilDed talks about the site returning. Do you know something that he does not or the other way around?
Would be nice if they just re-release the emu with a Win2K compatible exe encrypter.

While JoseQ might not have heard any golod whisperings about the future of Mame I have seen other sites that are starting to gossip about Taito F3 games coming to Mame with the possiblity of sound finally being emulated as well. With Raine out of the picture I think this is one that will show up in the .37 beta cycle, but that is just speculation...

I heard that Raine is out of the picture because of the constant assimilation by Mame :(
