MAME 0.37beta5! - July 27,2000 by JoseQ
Not shortly after the newer Midway games were announced as being supported in MAME, Nicola finished a source tree and sends it out for the public! The binary is now available at the Emulator Download Page and the ROMs which will be quite hefty. Thirty (30) of them have been posted along with the screenshots in the ROMs and ROMs Lite areas. A couple of things to note: Please notice that there are two places from which you can download the ROMs from directly from the ROMs and ROMs Lite pages, try to use the one that works out faster for you; secondly, please also support this site by visiting the sponsors, as this load will probably break new records... Here's the new games supported and this is probably the longest list of new games you'll see in quite a while!

I have *the* new Intel 1GHz P3 Computer...
still slowwwww...... but playable (barely) with sound tuned off. Until Mame team Makes the game driver to reroute video funtions call into Nvidia or 3Dfx, the CPU will still have to do all the emulation on it's own.

    I thing you need a Pentium 8 1 TB.

    hihihi

    And a 1000x DVD RAM

I thing there's a problem with mames' programing,
i think it's to hard to let a Pentuim computer runnig a Virutal arcade PCB.

    It's Very hard to build.

    greetings PeeWee

Threads threads threads.. we need to be able to
utilize multiple processors. The market is full
of dual pentium motherboards, we need to take
advantage of that second processor while
emulating some of these multi-68040 machines.
Any intel machine is going to run circles around
an RS/6000 with a single CPU. But after two
processors the rs6K will probably start to
shine. There are a lot of quad-G4 boards on the
market, and those things run Linux, so that
might shine. If you can get access to an S80 for
a weekend and your employeer has loaded it with
24 of those sweet copper chips, you can emulate
anything you want. Assuming you use more the one
    processor.

I have a p3 500 w/ 256 mb of ram, and MK2 runs at about 85-95% with no sound. It runs at around 50-60% with sound. I haven't got ahold of mk3 yet, so I dunno what kind of beast that's gonna require.

I think the drivers need a serious optimization actually...

think about how "powerful" the Neogeo is supposed to be...and it's handled pretty well by NeorageX and Mame....though the hardware of the new games on the new mame have a bit higher specs, it's all in speed optimization...the System 16 drivers are still a lot slower than the System 16 exclusive emulator. but those are getting faster bit by bit as new releases gets done

    Neo-Geo is like a 68000 and a Z80 for sound.
Its basicly a Mac I and a TRS-80. Seeing Metal
Slug play in Mame, it blows my mind how much
milage they get out of that little CPU. In
today's world where you need 600Mhz and 256M
of ram and a video co-processor to run your
word processor at full speed, its difficult
to believe that things like neo-geo exist.

Yup....shows how lazy programmers now are about optimization and stuff....Mame's devteam seems to be no different either.... because the System 16 drivers, and Raine(Taito) drivers are a whole lot slower than their counter part on the Raine Emulator and System16 emulator...

The problem seems lacks of Sound CPU optimisation...(shutting the sounds off means an about 80% speed boost in most of those games on mame) but like I said....it needs optimization...
I wouldn't mind less NEW drivers in order to have more BETTER drivers...(if you know what I'm saying)
