STUN Runner and Hard Drivin' - August 10,2000 by JoseQ
Is Aaron Giles human? That is the question that many of us are asking as he has delivered once again what pretty much everyone wanted to see! If you visit the S.T.U.N. Runner Emulation Page or the MAME W.I.P. you will delight yourself with pictures of S.T.U.N. Runner and Hard Drivin', both in action. However, these polygon games require some major crunching power as it runs at half the speed on amazingly fast Pentium II 933s! Sad but true! Could there be any hope? I don't think we can hope for much except for maybe a recompiling emulator? Who knows... for now it seems we will just have to enjoy the pictures...

One Article Up: Dorsola is back...
One Article Down: Mimic does consoles too?!?

The slow down of the game is not caused by the polygons at all. It is the ADSP-2100 processor that handles all of the math functions.

What I don't get is why it takes sooo much power to run simple polygons!!!! Can't it be made so the the 3DFX or whatever video card does the crunching instead of the CPU? Just an opinion,
great work nontheless

Cheers

It doesn't. Aaron has indicated that the speed hit is elsewhere, in the hardware that handles math calculations.

Maybe a work around would be to use hardware transformation and lighting for these games. ;p
