MESS does Fairchild F! - August 15,2000 by JoseQ
MESS will soon include a brand new driver. This time for the Fairchild Channel F system. I for one, don't have a clue about what this system could be. But hey, I don't make the news, I just deliver them. Actually, the Fairchild Channel F was a very old console that had two controls that looked like air pumps, but were really sort of like paddles to turn. Using cartridges, it enjoyed games like "Baseball", and "Alien Invasion" among over a dozen different other titles. I never did see one however, but those who did, might be thrilled about the idea of seeing this in action again... Then again, it might be just those two people on the ad.

Having one of these Fairchilds, owning a Coleco Telstar, and having one of the first Beta vcrs on the block are just some of my fondest memories from childhood. I'm more fond of that fairchild than TRS-80 III my folks leased for something like $5,000.00

Fortunatly, my folks did not look ANYTHING like those two weird maniquins in that ad.

I used to own a Fairchild video game console and about ten games. It was so-so. One flaw I saw with the system was that the controllers (very difficult to operate, by the way) were hard wired into the system.

I remember seeing one of these in Connecticut around 1975 or 1977 with my Dad at a Heathkit store outside of Hartford. I was totally in awe of it at the time and even got a chance to play with it for a bit. Never owned one but would like to have. Has MESS emulated RCA Studio II yet?

I have had one of these since they came out. Havent played it in years, but i remember spending long hours with the drag race game trying to beat the fastest time.
The controllers were one section held in left hand and right hand on top. The top section had 8 directions to move in and you could also turn the top left or right. Also you could pull up or push down on the top part of the controller.
There was also a cool doodle cartridge that made great screen designs kalidescope style. It was back in the days when Space Invaders was only in the arcades.
