Snes9x on Dreamcast? - August 16,2000 by JoseQ
I just received a note this morning from Fsgod, about Sintendo, a project that targets getting Snes9x ported to the Dreamcast platform. With Snes9x portability and the 'leaked' Dreamcast development kits running around the net, this certainly seems like a feasible idea. There's tons of updates on the site, and frankly I haven't read through all of them, but I must say it would be very cool to see this happen. What do you think? With a Dreamcast you could play SNES, Playstation and the wonderful Sega library for original DC games. It's certainly awesome system, and I'm very happy to own one. As soon as public versions of such things become available, you can count on yours truly to be testing them out!

Is the windows/dos version of Snes9x really that bad? The mac port runs every game (that I've tried) absolutely flawless on my beige G3. I know the dreamcast would have no trouble running it...

You have a point Matt, also....realize that the resolution on TV's is not that of a computer. It is much smaller and thus will speed it up even more. When I use ZSNES on my PIII-600Mhz, Voodoo5 and 192MB of RAM. I use 640x480 and it still slows down a little. But the lower the resolution, the faster the performance....

One my P200 MMX + Voodoo 3 3000 most of the games are a lot choppy and the frame rate is often nothing more than 20 fps = almost unplayable with fun.
The dc is 200 Mhz and the Video card is not known to be a beast in 2d....
If is run like PnesX, just another useless emu.

USELESS no $!@#ing way man
btw i think that you underestimate the power of the powervr card.
and i can assure you that the powervr2 has got more power then you think.
i can tell you because i work in a shop wel no matter were i work
i can only say that the powervrdc is not the same card as the pc
ow yeah the sh4 is maybe a 200mhz but he can beat a pentium 400mhz
anyway it is very good news for the dc to have a snes emul :))))
now i'm waiting for a saturn emul (hint);)

I agree with Matt. The DC cannot be compared with a Pentium 200MHz computer... the OS on it is streamlined to run games, and so is the hardware. I'm sure SNES emulation will not be as far off as a P200 computer would be. I also believe there's a 128 bit something in it =)

the Proc in the DC is a lot more efficient than the PC. The games for it would never run otherwise.
I'm sure that it has more than enough power to run this emu.
I used to have a 233MMX with a ATI Charger and the SNES games ran fine, could've been a little smoother but they were okay.
