Final Burn does Scanlines! - September 19,2000 by JoseQ
Final Burn has been upgraded to version 0.16. You can get (and trust me, you want it) this new release from the Emulator Download Page right now! What's so good about this? Scanlines are now supported! This comes just one day after the full screen mode was supported in version 0.15! Kudos to Dave for his non-stop work on this awesome piece of work. Oh by the way, I tried this out on my TV yesterday using a GeForce2 MX and it worked flawlessly. You should try this card with Windows emulators. I can't wait to get home to play it now with scanline support! Thanks to Emulation H.Q. for the news!

I had a problem, i pressed scanlines before i chose a game and it locked up on me, esc, ctrl/alt/del, alt/tab didnt work, i eventually pressed all the keys and got the space bar to bring up the games menu, then once the game was running it was ok to exit, i suggest that if possible you cant turn the scanlines on till you`ve launched a game, or not have it activate till you launch the game, i nearly reset my pc cos of it, which is a pain in the arse.

Apart from that, great job, cool emulator, keep up the good work and fingers crossed for power drift ;)

why do people like scanlines? They make the image much uglier.

I use scanlines for the same reason I use my Hotrod to play games... it *enhances* the retro feel ;) yeah I thought scanlines were stupid at first but soon changed my mind, some would say scanlines help reduce the jagged lines in the graphics. I can see that, but the difference is subtle.

Emus that support 50% scanlines (like NeoRage) are best...more authentic looking, not so brutal.

Scanlines are faster for slow PCs cause there's only half as many pixels needed to be plotted.

Scanlines DO make the game a bit more arcadey looking... also your eye fills in the gaps between lines giving the illusion of less vertical chunkyness...but a tv is best...remember these games were designed with a (much blurrier than PC screen) TV picture in mind and the super-high definition PC monitors of today are not kind to them (They also tend to favour the blue end of the spectrum more than TVs on account of their higher colour temperature...but some monitors let you change this).

320x240 looks chunky as hell on a PC monitor, but on a TV screen looks alright...

they do my head in, but look more like an arcade monitor I guess (if you look very very close to an arcade monitor!). Running a game on a TV screen can look better with scanlines so I hear.
