Bliss opens it's source! - December 09,2000 by JoseQ
Not only is Bliss, the first publically (freely) available Intellivision emulator that works, but it has also officially become an open source project. If you're interested in looking at the source code for this emulator, be sure to visit the site (on the link above) where a download is available. As you probably know, this emulator is coded in Java, so it should be fairly simple to understand. It's good to see this kind of project evolve in such a fashion, as it will definitely speed up improvements in the future.

It won't be able to do it with the Bliss source code, however, as Bliss is written in Java and MESS is written in C, so they would essentially have to re-write a new Intellivision emulator.

If MESS can assimilate the Intellivision technology with a new emu, however, it can feel free with no qualms from me. That's what's great about free software. Developers have no need to compete with each other because there is no money at stake. In fact, if someone would like to write an emulator in C to integrate into MESS, I'll be happy to offer my help with any technical information I have learned thus far in writing Bliss.

However, if this ever happened, it would in no way deter me from continuing to work on Bliss as I still see some merits to portability in having an Intellivision emulator written in Java.

Love, peace, and free gaming... :-)

Great . . . let's see how fast MESS assimilates it :)
