Something before Emulation? - September 28,1998 by JoseQ
Don't you feel the urge sometimes to fire up R-typeon your favorite SMS emulator? How about Vigilante on thePC-Engine emulator? Sometimes we have a favorite versionof a game that's simply not the original one, maybe becauseof that feeling of Nostalgia, where you remember how muchyou'd enjoy the cool Out Run music on your Commodore 64.Sometimes we just need to remember those good old games, and the good old home conversions.
Before Emulation, we had to settle for the home versionsof our favorite games. A new site on the internet, withdesire to document the variants of favorite arcade gameconversions is Classic Gaming Conversions. This site features pictures of some oldgames like Out Run, R-type, Space Harrier and others, running on those old platforms like the Amiga, C64, Atari STand a lot of other consoles or computers that used to beyour only solution to your gaming needs. I suggest you takea look and you'll smile when you see the differencesbetween the various versions of the games.
I find sometimes, that playing the Sega Genesis versionof Strider, even though Callus and MAME play the originalgame, is as much fun as playing the original. I think becauseMAME doesn't bring only the fun of the game, but the goodfeeling of those good'ol times when you were younger. Isuggest you take a look at the above mentioned site, thenfire up those good and fast SMS, Genesis, SNES emulatorsand have some fun like you used to in the yesteryears, you will probably enjoy it just as much.
