New Pitfall Champion! - December 18,2000 by JoseQ
I just got a note from Chief Scorekeeper Walter Day at Twin Galaxies stating that there is a new Atari 2600 "Pitfall" champion! Alan Hewston has managed a 'perfect game' in the game, achieving 144,000 points with his first man. This requires the collection of all 32 treasures without making a single mistake going over 400 obstacles! This is something that not even David Crane himself managed to accomplish (even though he designed the game!). If you want more info on this feat and even read an Interview with Alan Hewston, visit the Twin Galaxies home page. Congratulations to Alan!

Does anyone know if there is an end to Riveraid by Activision for Atari 2600? Also, how many unique bridge to bridge, sections are there? (Refering to the first Riveraid). Thank you.

None that I know of...as I recall...and this is by personal experience...the bridge sections eventually repeat themselves. As to how many unique ones there are? I never counted but I would guess that there is probably in the ballpark of like 150-200 different ones. I have turned the score over on this cart and it took like three repeats of the the whole thing to do it.

Damn, that was eons ago to me!! Back in 83...

As funny as this may be...I had no idea that this was such a difficult task. I remember my Mother getting a perfect score on this game pretty often back in 84 or 85. I had no idea that such records were even there to be broken. Anyway, As I remember at the end of Pitfall, what happens is that the Harry jumps up and down a few times with your score color cycling I believe and then it does the usual freeze with strange palette color shifts on the screen.

I need to bone up on my Pitfall! 2 cart. I know that I have gotten a perfect score on that one myself at least twice...but that was back in 86-87 and I still didn't know such a record even existed. Hell, I once had a polaroid of StarMaster on the StarMaster level with a score of 9999 on it!!! Never sent it in though...(and I wanted that damn patch too!!!)

Later...

Your mother seems to be very talented. I remember getting to the end, but never with the first man... I did play a lot of this game actually. =)
Things like this make me want to try it again though!

"Your mother seems to be very talented"

I used to tell her this all the time...but she never thought much of it. She was actually a much better game player than myself even though she didn't like me playing them all the time back then. I can remember her turning the score over like twice in one session on asteroids also. It would get to the point where she would get bored with them and then start on something else. But she was always better at the maze/platform types than myself. But I was far better at the space shoot em ups like StarMaster/Solaris...Space Attack...etc...

I called her up yesterday to tell her about this record and all she said was "cool..." She didn't think it was that big a deal then and doesn't now.

I bet that one day an old mint condition 2600 with some of her favorite games would make an awesome Christmas/B-Day present for her. Especially since I took my 7800 back.

wow...much longer than I wanted...sorry dudes!!

I'd assume that, like in most Activision games (or 2600 games in general). The game would simply end i.e. the screen would sorta freeze and start color cycling. woohoo! ;-)
