The Rumor Mill! - December 21,2000 by JoseQ
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls... it is time once again for the weekly posting of The Rumor Mill here at EmuViews. I got quite a few reports this week, some with exclusive pictures you're going to enjoy I assure you. What's in the bag today? I've got stuff from BDM, AGES, SegaEMU, DCGenerator, Raine32, HanaHo, Genital, Hu-Go! and Bliss! Enough to make for a juicy Rumor Mill eh? Remember this will probably be the last Rumor Mill of the year, so I'm glad it's pumped up with juice. So let's dive right into it!
Starting of course with what I mentioned first, BDM; which is short for Beaten Dying Moon. This unreleased Gameboy emulator has been seeing some work as of late. The author had been working on the UI he wanted to do, but then we saw him pack his bags for the holidays. It seems certain he won't be doing any work on the emulator for the next few weeks. However, I can assure you the emulator is very much alive and shall see continued work by the middle of next month.
Next up is Quinntessons piece of art, AGES. I have received two reports on this since the last Mill. The first one listed a few new features going into this Sega Genesis/Sega CD emulator: Replacing .ISO support with .CUE/ISO/MP3 and .CUE/BIN support, adding RAR'd CD Image support, add Music Track Playing (with real CDs of course), multi-lingual support, and improved compatibility. As of this writing, I've learned that Quinntesson already completed .CUE support as well as RAR'd CD image support. A lot of time has gone into music playing but we saw a big red sign next to his ASPI writings labeling ASPI as "Crap". I guess nobody can blame him. As we understand it, good Santa-esson is getting dressed on or before Christmas eve, with a nice Santa suit to spread the joy among emulation fans. And one last thing, just to "illustrate the wonder of endless possibilities":

So let's get moving to Atani's land. Apparently we will be flooded by a furious rage from Atani. Planned Christmas releases include SegaEMU, DCGenerator, and Raine32! SegaEMU will come packing a newly written core for better performance and sound improvements, as well as integration of the 8-bit consoles (SG-1000 for sure, and SMS/GG maybe). There will also be some preliminary Sega CD support included as we had shown before.
On the DCGenerator front, this will be the initial release. It will include a fully re-designed user interface which will also be ported to Generator32. It may also see support for ZIPped ROMs and maybe support for the SegaCD BIOS if the custom 68000 core finds it's place and behaves in a stable manner.
Also on it's first release, Raine32 will be a full port of the DOS version. The user interface will most likely be the same as the DOS version done through Allegro. I just had the chance to try it and it looks to be quite the port. I didn't get a chance to test for performance since I'm running kind of late to post this article, but I guess you will all have a chance to play with it in just a few days. So hang on tight for a Raine32 release to happen before Christmas as well as the previously mentioned Atani Software programs.
The HanaHo agent was very nice to report in this week with some exclusive shots! I also got some info stating that if you're interested in the Mini Pac Cabinet you should be able to order from the website, but I wasn't able to find that section as of this writing. Maybe they're posting it soon. They're also accepting international credit card orders now. I also received a press picture of the Cocktail ArcadePC and something that's kind of a surprise: An ArcadePC with a steering wheel! This was custom built for a customer, so check it out:

Cocktail Table
Custom Arcade PC with Wheel!

As soon as an official press release is issued, I'll post something on the news page. Also, be sure to place your orders soon as they will be gone for Christmas holidays! So if you want your Hot Rod or ArcadePC to be on your way this year, you have to act quickly!
On the Genital camp, we found the emulator actually getting speedier. There should be a tile-based engine completed for the next release which will actually be intelligent enough to know when to be engaged. Next after that is sound support which is going to be worked on soon. It is currently not known if Genital v1.1 will have the first signs of audio, but certainly v1.2 will.
Some bits from emulators such as Hu-Go! and Mimic. Both authors have been busy with lots of exams and consulting work respectively but soon enough they'll get back to work. Hu-Go!'s site will go through a re-design soon, and as far as Mimic goes, we only know that Beaverman will be at home until the second week of next year, so he might put his hands to work on his emulator.
And finally, a report from the Intellivision emulator we all love and know as Bliss. There is still a lot of work to be done for the full-screen mode to be stable and configurable but so far, Java and DirectX seem to be getting along great! More good news come in the form that the author has verified that this DirectX version is WAY faster than the pure Java counterpart since it goes around the Java API bugs that plague the current releases. So Windows users rejoice since minimum requirements have gone down considerably for this next release. However, the author is also going on vacation, so I wouldn't expect this release to happen until well into January. And for your enjoyment, here's a screenshot of full screen Bliss in action!

Bliss Full Screen

Well peeps, that's it for the Rumor Mill in the year 2000. I hope you have enjoyed the comeback it made this year. I certainly I'm very happy that the feature is back and steadily happening every week. I for one I'm looking forward to Christmas for many reasons. It seems I'll have to post many emulators during the following days, so be sure to keep an eye on emulation while you enjoy Christmas. Until next time, Qmeister signs off, and thanks for reading!

So I take it theres no news on Impact ??

Strider 2 was supposed to break their 1 year barrier a few days ago, and they were allegedly planning a release before then....

Any Ideas ?

Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year! Good luck with the snow since I know you get a lot up where you are and I know there's another storm coming later this week. Have a good vacation if you're going anywhere. Man, they should make an article 2000, the year in emulation. So many big things- Systems C & 32 emulated, System 24 emulation attempt, lot of CPS2 progress, Final Burn, etc, etc. Hope 2001 is just as good.
