Raine is coming... - January 23,2001 by JoseQ
While a bit later than what was mentioned on the Rumor Mill last week, you should expect a new official version of Raine on February 1st! That's just a bit over a week ahead, so don't despair. A posting by Emmanuel refers to this date as being fixed since now it is known publically. Also in this posting, details about what is in the emulator already. Among those: Sound in F3 games, a very accelerated Cave driver with new games supported with full sound, better sound interfact and much more. Check out the posting for the whole deal. Remember that Atani's Windows port should follow closely...

One Article Up: Raine32 gets a date too!
One Article Down: New Jum52 too!

I noticed that while playing Wrestlefest on the current versions of Raine, the sound starts off good and gets worse. Will this be fixed in the new Raine? Also in the same game the graphics for Demolition's name are messed up. Will that also be fixed?

Damn, I thought they'd NEVER get the OTTO synth chip emulated.. FYI, it's a 32 channel PCM synth that was used in a number of midrange Ensoniq synthesizers and keyboards (including the SQ series). This was also the chip that was used in the Ensoniq Soundscape wavetable card (though it was independantly controlled by a 68000 on the card, you couldn't directly access it, it just acted as a General MIDI synth from the PC's point of view)

Yes, but it's still excelent :)

I tried Space Invaders '95 and it's very impressive, I would say most games have good sound, a few have bad sound, some suffer from the sound disappearing, while others have sound through the entire game.

Emmanuel is improving sound day by day, he's doing a GREAT job, I'm VERY impressed.

Of course, this was all possible, thanks to the MAME team!

I wonder if this means that those of us with P2 processors will be able to enjoy the games with sound at a decent speed. Even without sound Raine should be faster. Hopefully someone can fix up games like Ring Rage and Night Striker. Others like Super Cup Finals and Top Ranking Stars need graphics to be fixed. Thank you Raine team, and even the MAME guys who worked on F3 sound.
