The Rumor Mill! - February 01,2001 by JoseQ
What a week! I've been terribly busy with work, going to bed well after two in the morning, or as late as six in some ocassions. Nevertheless, we've had some amazing releases, including about 10 Final Burns, and more. This tireless action is not enough to stop Qmeister from posting a Rumor Mill though. No sir, I'm here with a bag full of Rumors for the most avid EmuViews visitors. I know you want them, so I'll get right on it.
This week, I'm running lean on Rumors once again, but still, I reckon you will be happy to learn about them. Let's start with Ages, Quinntesson's school jewel. It could very well be that this emulator goes through a release this coming weekend. In it, multilingual menus, and the very impressive hardware scaling and rotation emulation. There's also some surprises in the oven, but I can't say anything about those. You'll have to wait for the release on that.
On the Genital front, we managed to catch Bart working on a Z80 disassembler which will definitely be a nice addition to it's debugging capabilities. Bart is certainly doing his magic, expanding his cool Genital project.
The Bliss report came up nice and fat, so let's juice it up. It seems Kyle is receiving some important information that will help make Bliss the most accurate Intellivision emulator in existence. This will be done by emulating the "bus isolation mode" and "cycle stealing" which no other Intellivision emulator on the planet does. If you're thinking this is going to hurt it's performance, think again. Kyle has also been working with some modules (rewriting them) which should result in a 10-12% speed improvement on the emulator as a whole! And of course, compatibility increases will see support for ECS mode and cartridge RAM, expanding the game lineup with titles such as: "Mind Strike", "World Series Major League Baseball" which are currently unsopported. There's no release in sight though with all of the improvements lined up for it, but hey, it's a cool emulator eh? I'd say he deserves the time to work on it as he pleases...
From the Atani front, we all know that Raine is scheduled for a release tomorrow (in just hours!!!) which should be followed by Raine32 in the same day! That's pretty much what's keeping Atani busy these days. That and some Linux ports he has been prepping up for future releases... More on that later.
Some short reports arrived from Norbert Kehrer's JAE site. There hasn't been much action in the JAE / ONE camp, but as we understand it, Norbert is scheduled to pick up JAE for some new additions this weekend. Hopefully that'll turn out cool. Another small report arrived from the Apollo camp, which recently went open sourced. Rumors include a possible update to the source with some items that Azimer wanted to see included before the release, so you might be seeing that in the future. Azimer has also been seen working on Zilmar spec plug-ins for TR64 involving Input, Sound and Graphics. It's likely that you may see those in the next release of this N64 emulator.
Well that's pretty much it for this week. I also had the scoop on Final Burn's next release, but it's already out, so no luck on being first with those news. There's certainly lots of stuff going on, including the shift of Sega from Console Manufacturer to Console Software publisher, so we can't complain. There's plenty to do and talk about. Until next week, Qmeister signs off, and thanks for reading!

Looking forward to the Raine32 release, definitely. With all the rapid releases of Final Burn, it can take ones' mind off the waiting on some of the other good emulators we've been waiting on.

These ARE interesting times; hasn't been this much turmoil since the race to see who would get decent SNES emulation first in the wake of VSMC's death. Time will tell.

What more could anyone ask for?
