The Rumor Mill! - February 08,2001 by JoseQ
Better late than never, right? I'm sorry that I couldn't write the Rumor Mill last night but I couldn't find the time to do it and get a decent amount of time to sleep. Anyhow, I did receive quite a few reports for you Rumor hungry people, and you will be very happy to read through them I'm sure. Among the goodies this week I have: Handy, Raine32, SegaEMU, FreezeSMS, GENS and Bliss. So let's dig right into the Mill, shall we?
Starting with Handy, that very cool Lynx emulator. I got a surprise early report which included a very nice picture which you can click below this paragraph. The Handy you're seeing there is a cropped screenshot from a Windows desktop where Handy was a floating Window. Check it out:

Moving along to Raine32, I got a very interesting report. For those of you who are finding bugs within this emulator, you will be happy to know there is a bugfix release coming soon, probably this weekend. If you have been checking out the WIP page, you know there's already some fixes going into the main core.
Other Atani projects include SegaEMU which next release is nearly ready for testing. This next release should prove to be a biggie as it will include the first version of Atani's Sega CD Driver. Some people have said that there will also be a few surprises included in this release, so keep a close eye on Atani Software for these releases.
A small report snuck in from the FreezeSMS camp. As you already know, Jason has been working on rewriting the sound code, but as we have found out, that's not the only thing he has rewritten. Actually, pretty much everything will have been rewritten by the time the next release hits, and along with that, the Secret Feature that has been mentioned a few times on the site. I'm definitely eager to know what it is, but I guess we will all find out soon enough.
Another thin folder came in the mail from the rumor birds surrounding the GENS development cluster. While the next release is nowhere near the center of the radar, we've caught Stéphane working on the emulator after his school tests, and there have already been some bug fixes, specially the PAL games bug. I guess there will be some more Rumor Mill mentions about this emu before we actually see a release.
And finally, a cool and exciting report from the well positioned spies in the secret Bliss intelligence gathering undergound lair. The ECS support has been added into the emulator. The ECS was a keyboard add-on for the Intellivision that would prove some computer-like functions on this console. Some games were actually made to take advantage of this device including: "The Jetsons - Ways with Words", "Mind Strike!", and others. Of course, there had to be a "Basic" cartridge, which was included with the keyboard for kids to have fun programming... ah the Basic days...
Other than ECS, Bliss now supports two players, and increased emulation accuracy. This means that one of the hardest games to emulate for the Intellivision, "World Series Major League Baseball" is now supported! Actually, when the next release hits, there will only be one game left to be supported: "Melody Blaster" which requires the emulation of the musical keyboard. I'm definitely looking forward to this new release! Check out this screenshots:

Well, that's it for this week and the Rumor Mill. I hope you enjoyed reading through the underground happenings during the last week. Until next week, Qmeister signs off, and thanks for reading!

That's the Windows CE Emulator running under Windows 2000.

I didn't know Handy was targeting handhelds PCs...
